JOB TITLE:          DISTRICT ACTIVITIES & ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

 

DEPARTMENT:     SECONDARY INSTRUCTION

 

FLSA STATUS:      EXEMPT

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The District Activities & Athletic Director will oversee all aspects of the activities and athletic program, including hiring coaches, hiring site athletic directors, scheduling, budget preparation, promotion, compliance, and facility management. This role is designed for an organized person who thrives in a position of leadership and enjoys working with coaches and athletes to help teams reach their fullest potential. Whereas coaches carry out a team's day-to-day preparation, athletic directors take pride in the behind-the-scenes work, which puts teams in a position to succeed, sustainably grow, and ultimately bring back state titles to the district or help student-athletes earn college athletic scholarships.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university
  • 1-2 years of head or assistant coach experience at the high school level or higher

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree (M.A.) in Educational Administration, Sports Management, or a related field.
  • NIAA, RAA, RMSAA, CAA, or CMAA certification.
  • 1-2 years experience in a 5A or larger school while serving as a Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Assistant Athletic Director, or District-level Athletic Director.
  • Class B CDL
  • Experience or direct knowledge of the inner workings of Charter Schools

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 
        Program Management (40%)

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive athletic program that aligns with the school's mission and goals.
  • Organize, facilitate, and manage preseason, weekly season, and postseason athletic meetings with site athletic directors, coaches, and athletic staff.
  • Conduct monthly athletic facility audits with actionable data to drive continuous improvement for the aesthetic, practicality, and safety standards for the district.
  • Oversee the scheduling of athletic events, practices, and yearly physicals.
  • Manage the athletic department budget, fundraising events, and ensure that sports facilities are maintained to the highest standards.
  • Create actionable timelines to execution for coach’s catalog procurement, field usage schedules, concession stand procurement, athletic event coordination, event security, post season award banquets, coach certifications, and facility maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with all OSSAA rules and regulations, state department accreditation requirements, and any other typical legal requirements.
  • Oversee, promote, and grow athletic participation at district wide scale.
  • Perform community outreach by scaling student athlete community service efforts.
  • Market, promote, create brand awareness, and ensure district athletic collateral remains congruent to district graphic design standards.
  • Inventory, budget, and manage capital expenditures as they relate to athletics.

    Coaching and Staff Supervision (40%)
  • Recruit, hire, and supervise site athletic directors, coaches, and athletic staff; hold direct reports accountable to ensure success on and off the field.
  • Earn trust with school stakeholders to provide experiences that compliment the student body for a more successful educational outcome.
  • Create, maintain, and foster a culture of cleanliness, health, safety, accountability, excellence, and most importantly success through a winning or can-do athletic mindset.
  • Provide professional learning opportunities for site athletic directors, coaches, and athletic staff.  
  • Evaluate site athletic director and coaching performance to provide actionable and data driven feedback.
  • Foster a positive and supportive environment for site athletic directors, coaches, athletic staff, and athletes alike.

    Student-Athlete Support (20%)
  • Promote the academic and personal development of student-athletes.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes.
  • Monitor student-athlete eligibility and academic progress.
  • Organize and conduct athletic awards ceremonies and recognition events.
  • Create a culture of field and facility maintenance on the athlete level – ensure that athletes are equipped in life with a strong work ethic and ability to leave things better than they found them.
  • Look around corners to identify potential roadblocks or barriers to execution for athletes on or off the field.
  • Act as a servant leader to coaches, athletes, and executive leadership to provide emotional, professional, academic, or personal support within the circle of influence of this position.
  • Maintain periodic presence at season, playoff, and state championship level events to ensure that student athletes feel supported from the top down.
  • Foster and support our athlete’s road to college level athletics; act as a liaison between athletes, coaches, parents and college scouts.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from parents, regulatory agencies, school stakeholders, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to the executive leadership team, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

ACITIVITES AND SPORTS PROVIDED BY SANTA FE SOUTH:

The District Activities & Athletic Director shall have influence and direct leadership over the following sports and activities:

FALL: Volleyball, Softball, Baseball, Cross Country
WINTER:
Basketball, Wrestling, Cheer, Powerlifting
SPRING:
Tennis, Golf, Baseball, Softball, Soccer, Track, Rowing
SUMMER:
Strength & Conditioning
ACTIVITIES: Band, Choir, Pom, Debate, E-Sports

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. The chosen leader should have a strong bias for action, ability to dive deep, be exceptionally coachable, a profound understanding of frugality, a comprehensive ability to earn trust amongst leaders and peers, an unbridled ability to think big, as well as having an executive level of ownership while maintaining the bandwidth to challenge the status quo.
