POSITION SUMMARY
The Admissions Coordinator obtains the required information and admits residents in an efficient manner, in accordance with established policies and procedures, and as directed by the supervisor of department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the resident admission orientation program in accordance with our established policies and procedures.
- Admit and prepare identification records for residents in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Provide residents with admission information packet (e.g., resident rights, notice of privacy practices, admissions contract, etc.) Review as necessary.
- Obtain the resident/guardian’s signature on all required permits, releases, authorizations, etc.
- Maintain a current listing of all residents and assigned room numbers. Provide copies of such listing to nursing service, management, government agencies and personnel, etc., as necessary and in accordance with company privacy rules.
- Attach pre-admission documentation to admission papers as appropriate.
- Collect, assemble, and check admission papers. Forward to appropriate department.
- Abstract information from records as authorized/required for insurance companies, Medicare, etc.
- Maintain various registries as directed including register for admission and discharge of residents.
- Review/explain the resident, and/or guardian, room rates, billing procedures, visitors/guest privileges, resident care procedures, etc., as appropriate.
- Refer admission problems to proper authority, i.e., office supervisor, credit manager, nursing service, social service, etc.
- Maintain a resident waiting list in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Keep abreast of current Medicare/Medicaid regulations governing admission/discharge requirements of health care facilities.
- Maintain daily and monthly census report as directed.
- Assist the MDS Coordinator in scheduling resident assessments.
- Perform miscellaneous duties and assist business office personnel as required/directed.
- Assume the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability of performing the assigned duties of the Admitting Clerk.
- Agree not to disclose assigned user ID code and password for accessing resident/facility information and promptly report suspected or known violations of such disclosure to the Administrator.
- Agree not to disclose resident’s protected health information and promptly report suspected or known violations of such disclosure to the Administrator.
- Report any known or suspected unauthorized attempt to access facility’s information system.
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
Education / Licensure
· High School Diploma or GED
Qualifications / Experience
· Minimum 1 year experience in a skilled nursing facility preferred
· Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
· Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
· Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, visitors and the general public
· Must be calm and levelheaded in emergencies
· Must be well groomed and possess ability to work harmoniously with other personnel
· Must possess the ability to minimize waste of supplies, misuses of equipment, etc.
· Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing admission practices.
· Be able to follow written and oral instructions
· Be knowledgeable in the use of computers, data input/retrieved/output functions, etc.
· Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as must be willing to handle residents, staff, and visitors, based on whatever maturity level at which they are currently functioning.
Working Conditions
· May encounter frequent interruptions
· Will be involved with residents, family and government agencies
· Is subject to call‑back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post‑disaster, etc.)
· May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations
· May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses
Physical Requirements
· Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day
· Must be able to stand, bend and reach throughout the day
· Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time working on a computer
· Repetitive hand motion
· Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. on occasion
· Ability to read fine print on financial statements and invoice
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $28.00 - $30.00 per hour
