JOB DESCRIPTION The Special Day Class Teacher (SDC) provides direct instruction and coordinates services for identified exceptional students assigned to the Resource Specialist Program.
Reports to: School Principal
Supervises: Special Education Aide
TYPES of DUTIES
1. Provides instruction, in an appropriate setting, to students assigned to the special day program;
2. Coordinates the instructional programs provided SDC students with classroom teachers and when appropriate, other resource staff;
3. Participates in the development and evaluation of IEP goals for SDC students;
4. Participates in IEP meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
1. Appropriate California Teaching Credential authorizing service as a Special Day Class Teacher;
2. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with administrators, staff, and parents;
3. Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to the Special Day Class program;
4. Demonstrated ability to apply appropriate instructional methodologies in a Special Day Class program.
Desirable
1. Experience in a multicultural community;
2. Good communications skills.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provide instruction and services for pupils for whom individualized educations programs have been developed by the Individualized Education Team and who are assigned to regular classroom teachers for a majority of the school day;
2. Monitor pupil progress;
3. Provides consultation, resource information, and materials regarding individuals with exceptional needs to their parents and to regular staff members who have mainstreamed SDC students;
4. Coordinates special education services with the regular classroom instructional program and other resource programs operating within a school for each individual with exceptional needs enrolled in the Special Day Class program;
5. Assists in the development and evaluation of IEP goals for students identified and enrolled in the Special Day Class program;
6. Assists in the identification of pupil needs as appropriate;
7. Maintains appropriate student records as they pertain to the Special Day Class program;
8. Attends designated meetings;
9. Participates in parent conferences as needed or requested;
10. Participates in staff development programs for Special Education staff as appropriate;
11. Participates in the school and its program as a faculty member;
12. Advises the Director of Special Education concerning instructional materials needs;
13. Other related duties, as assigned.
