Essential Functions
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The Adapted Physical Education Program (Adapted P.E.) began in 1974 and provides a variety of credit and non-credit adapted curriculum for students with verified limitations from disability. We offer a rich variety of physical fitness classes that are modified to meet the needs of students with disabilities who could not otherwise benefit from non-adapted Physical Education classes such as weight training, swimming, functional movement, Pilates and dance. Students participating in Adapted P.E. develop skills that lead to the goal of participation in non-adapted P.E. classes and benefit in their overall health and welfare which support them in their general college participation. The program is well-established and respected throughout California and has bridged students from the Disability Resources Department (DRD) with resources from Kinesiology, Athletics and Dance (KAD) for over 50 years.
