After Care Helper
SUPERVISOR: Executive Director
GENERAL SCOPE
Assists After Care program; prepares materials; performs clerical duties in support of the classroom activities and performs playground supervision as assigned.
This is a part-time job, 12:00 to 4:00pm daily. Some flexibility in hours is possible.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists with the after-school program or after-school tutoring
- Performs playground supervision as assigned
- Monitors and reports behavior of students according to approved procedures; reports progress regarding student performance and behavior; assists in the development of appropriate social behavior using positive reinforcement techniques
- Performs routine clerical duties such as preparation of instructional and classroom materials; operates office equipment
- Provides support to the teacher by setting up work areas, bulletin boards, displays and exhibits, operating audio-visual equipment
- Assists students by providing proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude and general guidance; assists in student activities such as drills, exercises and practices
- Confers, as needed, with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs
- Assures the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and regulations; maintains student work areas in a neat and orderly manner
- Directs group activities of students as assigned; assists in monitoring classroom, lunchroom and playground activities
- Participates in meetings and in-service training programs as assigned, attends meetings related to curriculum content and student-related concerns and issues
- Perform related duties as assigned
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Basic subjects taught, including arithmetic, spelling, language and reading
- Basic instructional methods and techniques
- Classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct
- Child guidance principles and practices
- Safe practices in classroom and playground activities
- Proper use and care of educational and athletic equipment
- Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy
- Basic record keeping techniques
ABILITY TO:
- Reinforce instruction as directed by the teacher
- Communicate and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, staff
- Work confidently with discretion
- Perform routine clerical duties in support of classroom activities
- Print and write legibly
- Understand and follow oral and written directions
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Learn, apply and explain policies and procedures related to school and program activities
- Monitor, observe and report students’ behavior according to approved policies and procedures
- Maintain confidentiality
- Lift and carry up to 10 lbs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education equivalent to completion of twelfth grade and previous experience working with children in an organized setting.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 per week
