About the Role
We are in search of a Research Scientist I – II to join our bioanalytical team here at Sapient. The Research Scientist role (I-II) is primarily a bench based role, involving laboratory experiments such as the preparation of clinical and biological samples for mass spectrometry analysis and the set-up, use and maintenance of liquid chromatography mass spectrometry instrumentation, followed by the generation and interpretation of QC results. The level of autonomy for the position will depend on experience, an RSII will be responsible for acting with a degree of autonomy and performing more complex and specialized work whereas an RSI will conduct more basic research projects. The employee will share responsibility for maintaining a safe and efficient laboratory environment by keeping abreast of current standard operating procedures related to Sapient’s methods, techniques, and developments while supporting client projects through the summarization, analysis, and organization of project data.

Compensation – $TBD Base Salary Equity (final compensation will be based on qualification and experience)
Expectations for the Role:
- Primarily bench-based position
- Prepares, analyzes, and evaluates biological specimens.
- Calibrates, initializes, and troubleshoots laboratory equipment.
- Operates laboratory equipment and contributes to laboratory maintenance.
- Performs a variety of assays, tests, and studies.
- Maintains clear and organized electronic lab notebook (ELN), documenting protocols and results of all experiments performed.
- Supports the organization, tracking, and storing of specimens.
- Prepares stock chemical solutions.
- Maintains safe and efficient procedures in the laboratory; handles hazardous waste.
- Performs calculations to complete research test results; collates data; performs basic procedures for computer assisted data analysis; and maintains notes and logs or computer databases.
- Supports inventory management protocols.
- Other duties as assigned.
What we’re looking for
For RS I:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, related Life Science field.
- 5 years of related work or laboratory experience (undergraduate chemistry and biology labs will be considered).
- Knowledge of basic laboratory instruments, equipment, and analytical software packages.
For RS II:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related Life Science field and 1 years of related work experience.
- Familiarity with mass spectrometry techniques (preferably untargeted LC-MS, however targeted LC-MS is also favorable) and working in a BSL2/BSL2 environment.
- Experience with custom data workflows and data analysis required.
