Summary of Duties:
Responsible for the working day to day operations of the Education Department working in conjunction with the Animal Department and Education Coordinator. This is an entry level position. The Educator 1 will perform all programs as necessary or directed, as well as assist in the development of new education programs. The Educator will be trained and will ensure that all training is recorded in accordance with policy and procedures and assist in the implementation of policy and procedure of the Education Department and Sarasota Jungle Gardens. Educator 1 will communicate via Animal Care Software and with the Animal Department staff on a daily basis and report all incidents.
Primary Duties: ● Stands in for other educators when absent. ● Performs daily operations of the Education Department. ● Learns how to fill out all Company forms such as work orders, requisition forms and animal care checklists. ● Follows departmental and company policies and procedures. ● Learns all programs including after hour and off property programs. ● Follows and Practices Mission Statement Secondary Duties: ● Reports and assists general maintenance of Education areas of care. ● Records daily logs and record keeping of animals for Education Department care. ● Communicates to the Education Coordinator on a daily basis. ● Reports all incidents. ● Cross training with Animal Departments. ● Complete and sign off on Animal Safety Training.

Education, experience and specialized skills and knowledge requirements: 4-year Biology or Education, Zoo Education degree preferred, 3 years professional experience in Animal Management Industry or 1 year minimum completed experience. 1 year lead or supervisory experience Preferred 3-5 years experience with performing education programs. A thorough knowledge of Sarasota Jungle Gardens animals. Public speaking ability. Ability to recognize special skills with fellow employees and use them to the company’s best interest. Exhibits leadership skills. Exhibit good problem solving skills. Exhibits great communication skills. Must be physically able to perform above duties without any physical limitations. Skills in understanding human behaviors and applying behavioral conditioning.
