Authorization Specialist

Job Summary
The Authorization Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring that patients receive the necessary medical services while adhering to insurance guidelines and regulations. This position involves verifying insurance coverage, obtaining authorizations for procedures, and maintaining accurate medical records. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of medical coding, including ICD-9 and ICD-10, and have experience in a medical or dental office environment.

Responsibilities

• Review and verify patient insurance information to ensure coverage for services.
• Obtain prior authorizations for procedures and treatments as required by insurance providers.
• Communicate effectively with healthcare providers, patients, and insurance companies to facilitate the authorization process.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
• Assist in coding medical records accurately using ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding systems.
• Collaborate with clinical staff to resolve any issues related to authorizations or insurance verification.
• Ensure timely submission of authorization requests and follow up on pending requests.
• Stay informed about changes in insurance policies, coding practices, and healthcare regulations.
• Medical records and referral experience preferred.

Requirements

• Previous experience in a medical office or dental office setting is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of medical coding practices, including familiarity with ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes.
• Understanding of HIPAA regulations and the importance of patient confidentiality.
• Experience with insurance verification processes is highly desirable.
• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
