Salary Range: $59,344 - $68,787* (*Based on years of service employed with Saratoga County)

Job Description
This is semi-skilled work involving responsibility for independently performing a variety of repair and
maintenance tasks on waste water treatment equipment and related plant facilities. General instructions are
received regarding work of ordinary difficulty, permitting leeway in planning work details. Detailed
instructions are usually received for new or unusual assignments. The work is performed under supervision
of either a Maintenance Mechanic or Maintenance Supervisor, with leeway allowed for exercise of
independent judgment. Supervision may be exercised over the work of Maintenance Helpers and laborers.
Performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications: (at least)
Graduation from High School or possession of an equivalency diploma (GED) and three (3) years of experience
in the repair and maintenance of sewage treatment plant equipment or similar mechanical and hydraulic
equipment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Candidate must possess, and maintain, a clear and valid New York State Driver’s
License appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated, in meeting the necessary transportation needs of
the job.

Typical Work Activities (*Illustrative)
• Performs a wide variety of semi-skilled repairs to pumps, mechanical screens, heat exchanger and

reactor, gritting equipment, sludge and grit conveyors, skimming concentrators, filters and piping, and
other pneumatic and hydraulic equipment;

• Inspects and performs preventative maintenance on pumping machinery, conveyors, filters, grit

• Lubricates and cleans pumps and other machinery;

• Performs minor vehicle maintenance such as changing points and plugs, tuning engine, changing oil,

• Assists journeymen tradesman such as Electricians, Plumbers, etc. as required;

• Occasionally welds a variety of metals using both oxygen and electrical welding equipment;
  

• Consults with manufacturer’s representatives to become familiar with plant equipment operation and

• May operate automotive equipment occasionally;

• Prepares a variety of records and reports related to the work;

• Performs related tasks as necessary.
