What are the responsibilities and job description for the EKG Tech position at Saratoga Hospital System?
Summary of Position: Prepares patients and performs necessary tests such as electrocardiograms and Holter monitor hook-ups. Prepares, edits and processes related reports for physician interpretation and distribution. Utilizes MUSE automated EKG system. Responds to Code Blue emergencies. Completes necessary quality improvement activities.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Performs electrocardiograms as directed by physician and according to procedure.
- Processes all EKGs including those performed by Pre-Procedure Testing and 11pm-7am shift nursing personnel.
- Performs Holter Monitor Hook-ups and discontinuances according to procedure. Utilizes all aspects MUSE automated EKG system and reports problems to the director.
- Responds to all Code Blue emergencies within hospital, hooks machine to patient, runs continuous 3-lead rhythm strip and responds to direction of physician running code.
- Observes and communicates pertinent information and changes in patient's condition to the RN. Recognizes and reports abnormal results or complaints to RN, Charge RN and/or the Director. Collects physical, social and emotional data on patient and participates in associated care planning for patients.
- Prepares and cleans equipment according to policy and follows proper procedure for equipment in need of repair. Re-stocks all cardiographs at end of shift and completes QA documentation in each cardiograph per policy.
- Enters patient charges in Meditech system by end of shift and assists in resolving billing issues.
- Utilizes all safety devices according to guidelines and disposes appropriately. Maintains and assists with environmental cleanliness. Provides for patient safety through preventive measures (e.g. two patient identifiers, gait belts, bed/chair alarms, fall prevention and the maintenance of skin integrity). Practices appropriate hand-washing techniques, adheres to infection control, and isolation procedures.
Minimum Qualifications: High School graduate or GED required. Previous patient care experience preferred.
Salary Range: $19.38 - $31.82
Pay Grade: 22
