Quality Specialist: Stroke/STEMI Coordinator

Summary of Position

 

The Quality Specialist/Stroke/STEMI Coordinator will be responsible for the management of services and systems necessary for a multidisciplinary approach to providing care to stroke and STEMI patients. This individual will work in collaboration with the Stroke Center Medical Director and the Medical Director of the Cardiovascular Service Line to achieve this goal. The position requires knowledge and skill of; principals of business management, professional nursing theory and practice, stroke care and systems, principles of teaching and learning, research, and quality assurance and management.  The Stroke/STEMI Coordinator establishes relationships with all related physicians/professionals or other health related groups within the community and collaborates with the neuro and cardiovascular physicians, unit staff and other team members. The Stroke/STEMI Coordinator serves as the primary interface between neurologists providing telemedicine clinical services and the providers and patients located at Saratoga Hospital.

 

Primary Job Responsibilities

 

• Implement and manage a coordinated system approach for stroke care as a designated Primary Stroke Center and STEMI care as a PCI center.
   
• Organize Stroke Advisory Committee and Cardiac Service Line Morbidity and Mortality Review.
   
• Assures compliance with regulatory agencies requirements for stroke system of care including New York State Department of Health, Joint Commission, American Heart/American Stroke Association Get with the Guidelines, and Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, including providing regular status reports.
   
• Facilitate the development and/or revision of patient care protocols and policies to improve Stroke/STEMI care delivery.
   
• Disseminates Quality Reports on Stroke/STEMI performance obtained through databases for the purpose of improving patient outcomes.
   
• Leads performance improvement processes for areas below compliance or areas identified for improvement.
   
• Facilitates the development of necessary staff education for stroke/STEMI care providers on new or revised clinical practice guidelines, policies, procedures, and protocols.
   
• Collaborates with nursing and physician leadership for all stroke/STEMI care providers to ensure all educational requirements are meet annually.
   
• Assists with program planning for educational opportunities within the community, for EMS, and for professional staff, and maintains records of all events.
   

• In collaboration with NYS DOH and AHA/ASA, facilitate continuing development of regional stroke/ STEMI systems of care.
• Uses clinical and leadership skills to ensure the delivery of efficient and high-quality care to all neurology patients in the hospital.
   
  Organize and coordinate daily telemedicine rounding by neurologist including maintenance of rounding lists, accompanying neurologist on rounds and assuring that recommendations are communicated and implemented.
   
  Additional Responsibilities

• Participate in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities.
• Perform all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department.
   
  Minimum Qualifications

• NYS RN license required, Masters prepared RN required.
• Minimum 5 years working in an acute care setting, emergency nursing, or critical care required, experience with stroke and or STEMI care preferred but not required.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills required
• Stroke computer skilling including word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation
• Experience with electronic/hybrid medical records.
• Meditech experience preferred.

Salary Range: $28.32 - $49.82
Pay Grade: K5
