Job Description: Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation, Inc., a living wage certified employer, is seeking a Volunteer and Foster Coordinator. This role is critical to recruiting, managing, and retaining the volunteers and fosters that allow Sarge’s to rescue animals. Excellent communication skills, flexibility, organizational skills, and compassion for animals are all necessary to thrive in this role. This is a high-responsibility position that works primarily with people, with in-depth knowledge of rescue dogs and cats a necessity. The work schedule is 9 am to 5 pm five days a week, Tuesday through Saturday. Some phone availability outside of these hours is necessary in order to handle emergent foster concerns.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead development of volunteer program initiatives, including Youth for Sarge’s and partner day of service offerings
Lead development of foster program initiatives, including those that focus on the most at- risk populations (e.g., animals with behavioral issues and neonates).
Develop and execute monthly recruitment plans in concert with other staff, including the Social Media Manager
Provide foster and volunteer orientation, as well as any additional training as needed
Create, edit and update foster program materials (policies and procedures, applications, agreements, handbooks, role descriptions, orientation, training, etc.)
Ensure all fosters and volunteers are compliant with rescue protocols and procedures
Empower current volunteers and fosters to increase level of participation
Schedule and assign volunteers, ensuring a 90% fill rate for key positions
Prepare foster animals for entry into homes, as well as returns to adoption center, in coordination with other staff
Maintain volunteer profiles in Volgistics system
Maintain foster parent and foster animal profiles in ShelterLuv system
Create weekly foster and volunteer reports for staff meetings
Create monthly foster and volunteer reports for board meetings
Serve as the point of contact for foster families with questions or concerns about their animals
Partner with Events Coordinator to plan and execute annual volunteer appreciation party
Qualifications:
Minimum one year experience working or volunteering in a rescue, shelter, veterinary, or animal boarding setting
Minimum one year experience working in a customer service or public facing role
College degree is preferred but not required
Passion for animal welfare and a strong understanding of the challenges faced by animal rescue organizations
Dedication to providing the best care possible for our rescue animals
Ability to handle and manage animals of various sizes, breeds, and temperaments with confidence and compassion
Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
Flexibility in working hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed
Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
Physical fitness and the ability to handle physically demanding tasks, such as lifting heavy objects and walking dogs
Reliable transportation, with a driver’s license preferred
Working Hours: This position is full time, with approximately 40 hours per week. Some weekends, evenings, and holidays will be required. The schedule is expected to be 9 am to 5 pm Tuesday through Saturday most weeks, with some variability depending on the needs of the rescue and its animals. Some phone availability outside of this time frame is necessary to handle emergent foster concerns.
Compensation: $16.40 - $18 dollars an hour, commensurate with experience.
