Job Title: Production Technician

Job Summary: The Production Technician is responsible for the technical aspects of television production, including the setup, operation, and maintenance of cameras, lighting, audio equipment, and other production tools. The role requires a strong understanding of broadcast technology, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with the production team to ensure a smooth and successful broadcast. Key Responsibilities:
· Set up and operate cameras, lighting, audio equipment, and other technical tools used in TV production, both in studio and on location.
· Ensure that all equipment is functioning properly before production begins and make adjustments as needed to achieve the desired technical quality.
· Operate video switchers, character generators, audio mixers, and other control room equipment during live broadcasts or recordings.
· Provide technical support during live broadcasts, ensuring that all equipment operates smoothly and troubleshooting any issues that arise in real-time.
· Assist the production team with technical needs, including setting up microphones, adjusting lighting, and monitoring sound levels.
· Collaborate with directors, producers, and other crew members to ensure that technical aspects align with the creative vision of the production.
· Perform routine maintenance on all production equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
· Identify and repair equipment malfunctions, coordinating with vendors or technical support services when necessary.
· Keep detailed records of equipment maintenance, repairs, and inventory.
· Monitor and ensure the technical quality of all audio and visual elements during production, making adjustments as needed to meet broadcast standards.
· Conduct pre-production tests to verify that all equipment is properly calibrated and ready for use.
· Assist in post-production tasks as needed, such as reviewing footage for technical quality and making necessary corrections.
· Work closely with the production team to coordinate technical aspects of shoots, including scheduling equipment setup and ensuring that all technical needs are met within the production timeline.
· Assist with logistical planning for remote or on-location shoots, ensuring that all necessary equipment is transported, set up, and tested.
· Ability to work weekends/holidays/night, or prepared to stay late or come in early for weather coverage when needed.
Qualifications:
· Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Technology, Video Production, or a related field.
· Hands-on experience with studio and field production equipment, including cameras, lighting, and audio systems (preferred)
· Willing to learn a proficiency in operating broadcast equipment, including cameras, switchers, audio mixers, and lighting systems (preferred)
· Strong understanding of video and audio signal flow, broadcast standards, and technical troubleshooting (preferred)
· Familiarity with editing software and post-production workflows is a plus (preferred)
· Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment (required)
· Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality technical work (required)
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, as well as perform tasks that may require bending, kneeling, or climbing.
