As an Open Source developer intern, you will support platforms and cloud architecture that enable analytic solutions. You will also be curious with a drive for continuous learning. You will have a passion for developing solutions for customers’ varied business problems. At SAS, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with many experts in a variety of analytical specialties. Your understanding of cloud technologies and programming languages and various open source technologies to enhance capabilities will be valued, as SAS seeks to advance our approach to market.
You will be a team member that will support product development and integration activities regarding SAS solution products from product definition and planning through production and release.
You will support the sales team with solution sales activities to maximize revenue opportunities and ensure the highest levels of customer satisfaction, including:
- Outlining, developing and deploying Open Source and SAS technologies for on-premise, cloud-only and cloud-hybrid solutions for sophisticated computing work flows leveraging APIs and other application communication protocols for US sales and customer requests.
- Be a resource on a team involved with hands-on architecture and development for building data analytics platforms involving SAS technologies integrated with Open Source technologies that leverage IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, FaaS, the API economy and a variety of other specialized front end user interfaces.
- Utilize your experience developing in one or more programming languages including, but not limited to: SAS, SAS VA, Go, Java/JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, etc.
As an Intern you will be a part of a team that will:
- Be comfortable developing software with mid-tier (micro service), database, and container technologies.
- Design and develop high quality, testable and scalable software solutions within established timelines.
- Adhere to R&D best practices and processes.
- Actively involve other project stakeholders (e.g., managers, developers, product managers) to ensure implementation satisfies functional requirements and is consistent with established R&D standards.
- Participate in project scoping and scheduling; track progress of individual tasks and alerts stakeholders of issues blocking or preventing completion of task
- Ensure the quality of the code you write through the development of automated tests (unit, performance).
- Conduct code reviews to ensure integrity and cross-product consistency.
- Work closely with testing by providing thorough reviews of the test plan and communicate when updates to the plan should be made to cover code changes related to enhancements, redesigns and/or bug fixes.
- In collaboration with technical writers, authors appropriate level of design and technical documentation that satisfies both internal and external consumers.
- Work with multiple operating systems and anticipate technical anomalies and enhancements for various environments
Location
This internship will be a hybrid position based in Cary, NC.
Internship dates:
May 20 – August 8, 2025. We can be flexible on start date if your university is on a quarter system. Internships last 12 weeks in total length.

Pay Transparency: The hourly rate for SAS internships is determined by the applicant’s year in school and the position they are hired into. Hourly rates range from $15 – $31 for associate’s/bachelor’s level positions and $29 - $49/hour for master’s/Ph.D positions. Internship roles are not eligible for bonus.
