Development & Donor Relations Intern
Job Location: Hybrid / 741 8th St SE, Washington, DC 20003
Schedule: 15-20 hours per week, with flexibility around class schedules
Duration: 3-4 months, with possibility of extension

Sasha Bruce Youthwork is the leading provider of homeless youth services in the DC region. Founded in 1974, Sasha Bruce Youthwork (SBY) works to improve the lives of runaway, homeless, abused, and neglected youth and their families in the DC region. We achieve this by providing shelter, counseling, life skills training, and positive youth development activities to over 5,000 youth and their families each year. With 48 years of experience meeting the growing needs of DC’s youth and families with innovative programs, SBY is committed to ending youth homelessness.
Position Overview:
We seek a detail-oriented and organized Development and Donor Relations Intern to support our development team's daily operations. This role offers hands-on experience in nonprofit fundraising while contributing to our organization's mission through administrative support and donor relations activities.
Key Responsibilities:
• Maintain accurate donor records and assist with data entry in our donor management system, ensuring all gift processing documentation is complete and properly filed.
• Support donor stewardship efforts by drafting acknowledgment letters, preparing donor correspondence, and helping maintain regular communication with supporters.
• Coordinate the receipt, tracking, and acknowledgment of in-kind donations, including maintaining detailed records and ensuring proper documentation.
• Assist with basic prospect research projects as needed.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in progress, preferably in Nonprofit Management, Business, Communications, or related field
• Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
• Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
• Occasional activities outside of working hours may be required.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Previous experience with donor databases or CRM systems
• Interest in nonprofit development and fundraising
• Experience in customer service or relationship management
• Basic understanding of nonprofit operations
