TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

THIS POSITION
The Technical Director is responsible for upkeep and maintenance of the theater during the theater season, as well as overseeing theater teams at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts. They work closely with designers, directors and stage management to coordinate all technical needs for each department, ensure the best experience for patrons and a smooth event for the SCA Team. The TD is also responsible for Properties Design for both productions of the 2025 season.
The Technical Director reports to the Artistic Director; this is a seasonal full-time position.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
Theater
- Lead between all designers, especially sets, lights, sound and projections
- Supervising an Technical Director Intern
- Sets - Meeting with designer and builder, coordinate load-in and load-outs and set maintenance, some detail work and possibly some painting.
- Lights/Sound - Team coordination, material and supply ordering, equipment management
- Equip Stage Management and Design teams with tools and resources
- Properties Designer for the theater season (Come From Away and Waitress)
- Providing and maintaining all rehearsal and performance properties
- Tracking all borrowed and rented props and returning them promptly after the productions
- Troubleshooting any issues that arise during the production run and replacing/repairing
properties as necessary
- Working within predetermined budgets, submitting receipts and relative accounting records in a timely (weekly) fashion
- Infrastructure -
- Assisting tracking various design or event-specific budget lines
- Organization for all storage and inventories
- General maintenance and upkeep and servicing of equipment
- Coordinate with teams about new equipment, etc as needed
WHAT SKILLS YOU’LL NEED TO SHINE IN THIS JOB
- Exemplary organizational skills and a deadline-oriented work ethic.
- Strong problem solver; embraces change and flexibility.
- Knowledge of sound, lights, carpentry for theater.
- Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously with exemplary time management skills.
- Desire to work in a busy, fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
REPORTS TO: The Artistic Director
COMMITMENT: This is a seasonal full-time position, approximately 40-60 hours/week May- September, including many weekends and evenings. Pre-season hours for meetings and projects may be part of this offer on a contract basis starting February 24, 2025.
