The purpose of the Social Worker - Child Protective Services - Initial Assessment is to assess client needs and to develop, coordinate, and implement intervention and safety services for children in need of protection for the Sauk County Department of Human Services.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Investigate reports of child abuse and/or neglect and assess for immediate safety threats or risks to safety.Implement protective plans such as out of home placement, referrals to community services, and/or court involvement.Conduct thorough assessments to determine the range of services needed by these individuals and their families for preventative, remedial, or rehabilitative services through: InterviewsHome visitsCollateral investigationsProvide supervision and case management for families during assessment prior to case transfer to the Child Protective Services Social Worker.Explain the scope of agency and community services and discuss the client’s rights and responsibilities in relation to the use of such services.Prepare and maintain a variety of documents such a: Access reportsCase recordsContact notesInitial assessmentsLaw enforcement referral intakeSafety plansProtective PlansPermanency PlansRate settingsChild and Adolescent Needs assessmentCourt reportsState and agency forms and reviewsCounty and departmental reimbursement formsParticipate in preparation, attend and testify in court as neededProvide training to law enforcement, schools, and others on scope of practice in child protective services.Participate in committees, task forces, and multidisciplinary teams as assigned.Provide backup coverage to other Social Workers or cases as needed.And other duties as assigned.Required Working HoursStandard working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am until 4:30 pm. Please note these hours are subject to change and additional hours may be needed or required. Compensation for additional hours beyond normal working hours are subject to applicable state and federal regulations.

Required: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or another related field1 year of child welfare experienceComplete 30 hours of intake training under Wisconsin Statutes Chapter 48.06 and 938.06 within 6 months of start dateComplete pre-service and ongoing foundation trainings within 2 years of hire, if not previously completedLicenses/Certifications: Wisconsin State Motor Vehicle Operator’s LicenseObtain a Wisconsin State Social Work License within 6 months of start datePreferred: Wisconsin State Social Work License2 years of Wisconsin Child Protective Services experienceExperience in investigation, forensic interviewing, and abuse and neglect reportingAny combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.Sauk County is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
