Position Summary
The Laborer, under the direction of the Lead Carpenter/Construction Manager, is responsible for assisting skilled craft workers in the completion of construction projects for Sault Tribe Housing Authority. The Laborer performs a variety of manual tasks and general maintenance duties to support the upkeep and improvement of residential properties.

Physical factors include constant standing, walking; frequent carrying/lifting, pushing/pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, reaching, manual handling, use of hearing, bending; occasional sitting, use of smell, near/midrange/vision, depth perception, and color/field of vision. Working conditions include constant exposure to extreme weather, heat/cold, wet/humidity, noise and vibration and occasional exposure to air quality. Protective equipment clothing needed to perform job include hard hat, safety glasses, protective footwear and other protective equipment needed to perform functions of position.

The Laborer performs a variety of manual tasks and general maintenance duties to support the upkeep and improvement of residential properties.
Job Duties
The following include, but are not limited to essential functions of the position.
- Lift, carry, and hold building materials, supplies and tools for carpenters.
- Clean and pick up materials, tools, etc. to ensure a clean and safe working environment.
- Drive daily to and between job sites, warehouse, and vendor locations to deliver and pick-up materials as requested.
- Follow specific warehouse/material procedures.
- Tear out and demolish and dispose of materials on the job site.
- Nail miscellaneous items such as drywall, plywood, siding, trim, etc.
- Deliver and transport old products to non-profit organizations on a weekly basis.
- Assist in hanging, finishing, sanding, priming, painting drywall as needed.
- Document work performed, report maintenance issues or concerns to supervisors, and maintain accurate records of materials used and hours worked.
- Assisting in renovation projects by removing old materials, preparing surfaces for new installations, and performing demolition or construction tasks as directed.
- Assist skilled trades workers such as carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and HVAC technicians with various tasks related to repairs, installations, and upgrades.
- All other duties as assigned
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following:
- Must have basic knowledge of construction materials.
- Must be able to follow instructions both verbal and written.
- Must have reading skills.
- Must be able to interpret and follow safety rules and operations manuals.
- Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Must be able to interpret and follow safety rules and operations manuals.
- Must be flexible and available to work various shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Will be required to supply a variety of hand and power tools to perform the duties of this position; list will be provided upon hire.
- Must maintain confidentiality.
- Must maintain a good moral character standing.
- Native American Preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in the construction industry
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department.
- Must comply with annual driver's license review and insurability standards with the Sault Tribe Insurance Department.
- Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing.
