Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is seeking a postdoctoral associate for a Laboratory Director’s Postdoctoral Fellow position focused on ultrafast spectroscopy and determination of actinide species and concentrations by the chemical modeling and spectroscopy of solvated ions. This postdoctoral appointment will emphasize the development and application of advanced ultrafast spectroscopy techniques to support SRNL's mission in national security (NNSA), environmental management, and energy security. Specific work will involve using ultrafast spectroscopy to investigate new materials and their properties, as well as developing and scaling up spectroscopic methods for various applications. All SRNL Postdoctoral Research Associate positions are fixed term assignments within the company and benefits eligible.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starting and inquisitive researcher, eager to promote a collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment at the forefront of ultrafast spectroscopy. The researcher will collaborate with scientists and engineers across all three SRNL Directorates, including material scientists, electrical and mechanical engineers, and experts in theoretical modeling and simulation.

Responsibilities
- Supporting SRNL’s ongoing research and development activities in ultrafast spectroscopy, which involves both in situ and offline analytical measurements to inform process parameters and quality control.
- Utilizing knowledge of fundamental concepts in ultrafast spectroscopy and chemometric analysis to contextualize results and address challenges in scaling and applying spectroscopic techniques from the laboratory to production settings.
- Designing and building custom components for spectroscopic experiments, particularly for applications involving air-sensitive species.
- Leading publication efforts based on research findings and contributing to the broader scientific community.
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD 0-1 yrs
- Individuals must have completed all requirements for their PhD by the start of employment.
- For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required
- Candidate should possess a background and working knowledge of ultrafast laser spectroscopic techniques as well as the fundamental concepts and behavior of actinide materials. They should exercise judgment with practical engineering or scientific principles to determine an appropriate action.
- Preferred degrees include Physical Chemistry, Physics, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering.
- Cross-discipline knowledge in advanced scientific or engineering concepts
- A basic knowledge of commercial off the shelf laser systems and equipment.
