What You'll Do in This Position

SRNS Environmental Management Operations' (EMO) H Canyon is the only operating, production-scale, radiologically shielded chemical separations facility in the United States. The EMO mission requires dissolving and adjusting nuclear materials in H-Canyon as well as dispositioning dissolved solutions. The N&CSE H-Canyon / HB-Line / F-Area support organization supports mission activities by maintaining safety basis documentation and information which allows continued operations.

SRNS is seeking to hire an experienced Nuclear Safety Engineer with primary duties in H-Canyon to incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.

Primary Functions of this role include but are not limited to :

Support the development, writing, review, and implementation of nuclear safety documentation for various facilities (H-Canyon, HB-Line, 235-F, F / H Lab, FCC, etc.) at the Savannah River Site.

Understand Accident Analysis, unreviewed safety question (USQ), Safety Basis Regulatory Authority (SBRA), and Consolidated Hazards Analysis Process (CHAP).

Provide technical assistance in developing, writing, maintaining, and reviewing nuclear safety documents and analyses, technical safety requirements (TSR), limited conditions of operations (LCO) and related technical support documentation.

Ensure that the developed nuclear safety documentation complies with requirements and as necessary, applicable controls are implemented in field procedures. Conduct Nuclear Safety Program assessments.

Keep informed on technical needs within the company and technical trends in area of expertise in the external world.

Be aware of capabilities and needs of customers. Identify technical programs which can be carried out with little guidance and take the initiative to accomplish them.

Apply technical experience in field of specialization and lead task teams for developing solutions to problems. Prepare plans including schedules, and personnel requirements for solving major technical tasks identified by management.

Develop schedules, monitor progress, and complete tasks in a cost effective and timely manner.

Mentor junior colleagues.

Communicate information to DOE representatives, facility operating safety committee members, and other stakeholders. Facilitate discussions between customers, colleagues, managers, and oversight groups.

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and / or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance. This list of factors is not exhaustive; pre-employment information and security clearance requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Qualifications We Require

Bachelor degree in applicable science or engineering discipline

Other Qualifications

Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if required.

Qualifications We Desire

Previous experience with the use and implementation of 10 CFR 830, DOE O 413.3, DOE O 420.1, DOE STDs 3009, 1186, 1189 and related directives and standards.

Relevant experience in developing, writing, reviewing, and maintaining safety basis documents and safety basis support documents is preferred.

Prior design authority engineering and / or nuclear safety engineering experience for a DOE site, preferred.

Candidate must demonstrate proficiency in developing and providing safety basis inputs to facility / project schedules, while meeting deadlines and budgets.

Candidate must perform work safely and be proficient in performing Nuclear Safety Program assessments.

Active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years are preferred.
