Job Summary
The Cybersecurity Architect is responsible for designing, building, testing and implementing security systems within Savannah State University’s IT network. The Cybersecurity Architect is expected to have a good understanding of complex IT systems and stay up to date with the latest security standards, systems and authentication protocols, as well as best practice security products. This is a Title III grant funded position. Employment is contingent upon availability of funding.
The Cybersecurity Architect is a remote position. Five events will be required throughout the year for this individual to travel to the Savannah, Ga, campus. Please note this is an employee privilege and can be revoked at any time by SSU or the hiring manager.
Responsibilities
- Reviews current system security measures and recommends & implement enhancements based on Title III activity
- Conducts regular system tests and ensures continuous monitoring of network security
- Develops project timelines for ongoing system upgrades
- Ensures all personnel have access to the IT system limited by need and role
- Establishes disaster recovery procedures and conducting breach of security drills
- Promptly responds to all security incidents and providing thorough post-event analyses
- Assists with establishing and maintaining a security awareness program to achieve a security conscious campus community
- Arranges continuing education to University personnel and guests to ensure security policies are adhered to at all times
- Assist in developing and recommending policies & procedures necessary to protect the university information resources
- Participate in mitigating security vulnerabilities and information security risks assessment and management
- Serves on the Incident Response Team
- Assist with university website updates and security patches
- May be required to perform job related duties other than those specifically delineated in this position
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with three (3) years of experience in cyber security, network security, cyber defense, IT Security Operations, Information Technology; or
- Associate Degree with five (5) years of experience in cyber security, network security, cyber defense, IT Security Operations, Information Technology; or
- High school diploma or GED Equivalent with seven (7) years of experience in cyber security, network security, cyber defense, IT Security Operations, Information Technology
- Must obtain a Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) or Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) within the first twelve (12) months of employment
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree
- Five (5) years of cyber security experience
- Certificates in Security , Network , CompTia A , Certificated Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), etc.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Knowledge of security protocols, cryptography, authorization and security
- Knowledge of current IT risks
- Skills in implementing security solutions
- Skills in verbal, written and technological communication
- Skills in implementing multi-factor authentication, single sign-on, identity management or related technologies
- Skills in information security and/or IT risk management with a focus on security, performance and reliability
- Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and an orientation towards customer service
- Ability to maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with others
- Ability to interact with a broad cross-section of personnel to explain and enforce security measures
