Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Dock Master to oversee the operations at our dock facility. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the docking and undocking of vessels, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and maintaining efficient operations. This role requires strong leadership abilities, mechanical knowledge, and a commitment to excellence in service to our Members.
Education and/or Experience
- Two years or more as a Dock Master or Marina Manager.
- Prior experience in a high level customer service or member service environment.
- Heavy equipment (forklift, tractor, powered lifting equipment) experience preferred.
- Boat safety course from US Coast Guard Auxiliary recommended.
- Small boat competency or boaters License.
- Certified Life Guard or Water Safety Instructor, recommended.
Job Knowledge, Core Competencies and Expectations
- Thorough knowledge of operational and maintenance requirements of harbor facilities and equipment.
- Knowledge of nautical calculations and terminology.
- Exhibits strong leadership abilities including motivating employees, conflict resolution, communication, and training capabilities.
- Strong customer service skills.
Duties
- Supervise the docking and undocking processes of various vessels, ensuring safe and efficient operations.
- Coordinate with crew members and other dock personnel to facilitate smooth vessel movements.
- Assigns slip spaces to members and guests.
- Inspects dock, slips, lines, etc., daily.
- Greets and provides assistance to members and guests arriving to and exiting from the dock.
- Completes monthly walk through of Member boats and maintains a log for 3 day slips.
- Performs emergency duties in the event of hurricane, fire, accident or other disaster.
- Maintains and repairs or supervises the maintenance and repair of the docks and dock areas.
- Maintains and cares for all club-owned boats.
- Seasonally recruits and develops training for Dock Team.
- Selects, trains, supervises, schedules and evaluates all personnel associated with dock area.
- Plans and implements seasonal start-up and shut-down activities for dock area.
- Operates, markets and controls inventories for club marine store and fuel dock.
- Ensures that harbor is operated in compliance with all federal, state and local regulatory guidelines.
- Builds and determines the Docks budget and operates within the financial guidelines established; takes corrective actions as necessary to assure that budget goals are met.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
- Able to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.
- Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping and pulling.
- Push, pull or lift 50 pounds.
