Save the Children’s Policy, Advocacy, and Campaigns- Government Relations department (PAC-GR) leads on developing evidence-based policy recommendations and targeted advocacy and campaign strategies for children most impacted by inequality and discrimination. We work with political leadership and other duty-bearers to drive change in U.S. foreign policy, as well as relevant regional and international policies and practices that empower children and families around the world.
The Role
As the Humanitarian Policy and Advocacy Fellow, you’ll be integral to our work in helping vulnerable children achieve a brighter future. You will support the policy and advocacy work of the PAC-GR Humanitarian Advocacy Team (HAT). You will have a U.S. foreign policy focus and will provide critical support to the team’s advocacy by tracking, analyzing, and contributing to the creation of advocacy products and execution of advocacy activities related to the needs of children affected by conflict and disaster.
This funded fellowship is available for the summer of 2025 through a partnership with the University of Michigan Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy and Save the Children.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)
- not inclusive of all role responsibilities. May be subject to change
- Contribute to information gathering, research, and analysis in relation to U.S. government foreign policy processes and advocacy opportunities related to children affected by conflict and disaster.
- Assist in conducting research on priorities and demonstrated interests of key decision-makers and influencers, such as U.S. government actors, including the Administration and Congress, private sector actors, and peer organizations.
- Research and write content for background briefs, talking points, fact sheets, policy briefs, and communications materials, including social media content, in furtherance of Save the Children’s humanitarian policy and advocacy objectives.
- Assist in preparation and execution of strategic events, including internal and external facing workshops and meetings, as related to Save the Children’s humanitarian policy and advocacy priorities.
- Attend both internal and external meetings and events and assist in notetaking and follow up of action points.
- Contribute to Save the Children’s thought leadership on children affected by conflict and disaster through strategic research efforts and policy analysis on specific policy questions as needed.
- Must be actively enrolled in University of Michigan Master program
- Possess strong written skills, solid interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team
- Highly organized, able to prioritize and multi-task within deadlines
- Able to handle confidential and proprietary information appropriately and with discretion
- Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
- Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
- Currently eligible to work in the U.S.
- Demonstrated interest, experience, and/or academic training in humanitarian policy and practice;
- Basic understanding of the U.S. government’s humanitarian assistance policy frameworks, structures, and processes;
- Knowledge and understanding of key issues and current trends in humanitarian policy and practice.
