Position Title: Registered Nurse/Supervisor
Days/Evening/Nights (12 hour shifts)
Supervisor’s Title: Director of Nursing
General Statement of Responsibilities: The Registered Nurse (Supervisor) is responsible for the well being and nursing care of all residents assigned on unit during their shift, or tour of duty. This includes, but is not limited to: provision of nursing services; and assisting in: carrying out physician’s orders, assessing residents to note any changes in resident’s conditions, respond & report to resident’s change in condition, oversee distribution of medications, chart medication, distribution & count narcotics & maintain narcotic inventory record, assign nursing staff to resident’s and provide leadership and supervision to nursing staff and respond immediately to emergencies.
Bona Fide Occupational Requirement: Possession of current state license as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Major Job Duties:
1. Visit each resident on unit, assess needs, and assign nursing staff to care for residents during shift, or tour of duty.
2. Provide leadership, guidance, supervision, and evaluation of nursing staff. Provide information to Director of Nursing regarding performance of nursing staff and participate in the evaluation process of nursing staff.
3. Receive physician’s orders in resident care. Make rounds with physicians and record the rounds in resident’s charts.
4. Distribute medications and chart distribution of medications in resident’s charts according to established standards and regulations.
5. Count narcotics and maintain accurate record of narcotic inventory/count.
6. Participate with the interdisciplinary team, in the development and updates of the Resident Assessment and Comprehensive Care Plan as resident’s conditions change to include attendance at treatment team meetings as requested.
7. Assist with charting of all clinical and nursing care provided to residents. Ensure charting is accurate, done in a timely manner, and meets established standards and regulations.
8. Administer medications and treatment as needed. Chart the administrations of such injections.
9. Provide consultation, information, and support to residents and their families as needed.
10. Ensure information is transferred regarding resident care and condition as related to nursing services in shift changes; i.e. shift beginning and shift ending.
11. Participate in in–service trainings, staff development programs, and staff meetings.
12. Provide emergency care as appropriate, in accordance with physician orders and advance directives.
13. Overall management and implementation of resident care plan, documentation in care plan of resident’s progress and change in condition.
14. Provide care in accordance with Federal, State, and Local Regulations.
15. Perform other duties as assigned and needed to ensure the quality of comprehensive nursing care and other general care to residents.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities In: Best practices in nursing care, quality assurance, state regulations, standards and mandates in long term care, documenting services according to acceptable practice and standards, working with elderly & disabled population, work effectively with physicians & other treatment team staff, read & implement physician orders, distribution & inventorying medications, medication side effects, universal precaution/infection control, administer injections & I.V.’s, solve problems & make sound judgments, effective oral, written and interpersonal skills, maintain confidentiality, work and be available for varied/flexible schedule.
Physical Requirements: Must be capable of exerting 50 to 100 lbs. of force occasionally (less than 1/3 of the time), and or excess of 25-50 lbs. of force frequently and up to 10-25 lbs. constantly. Must be able to move objects, equipment, and residents. Must be capable of regularly standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, and crouching; must use hands to manipulate tools, equipment, or controls; reach with hands and arms, balance, lift and perform medium to maximum transfer assists with elderly residents. Must have visual and hearing acuity sufficient enough to assess resident’s safety and liability.
