Status: Full Time, non-exempt

Pay $23 per hour

Location: Ken Lee Trailer

Schedule: Monday – Friday: 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Schedule may include some evenings up to 8 p.m. as needed to meet the scheduling needs of clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Family Stabilization Program Coordinator & Program Director, the Family Development Associate (FDA) is responsible for performing a variety of activities to implement the Family Stabilization Program which connects families and individuals with access to stable housing. Services include the Tenant-Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) voucher program, supporting clients in locating permanent housing, connecting clients to rental assistance programs, and one-on-one case management to reduce and end homelessness in our community. Family Stabilization is committed to providing services that are trauma informed, strength based, person centered and empowerment oriented. Services will be in keeping with agency goals, objectives, mission and style and provided within a team framework


Duties

  • Coordinate a variety of services such as one-on-one case management, crisis intervention, determine initial and continuing eligibility of applicants for services, assist applicants with obtaining necessary documentation for rental assistance, inspect housing units for safety and habitability, and provide resources and referrals to aid in housing stability
  • Work with and act as a liaison with interested or participating landlords, rental agencies, community organizations, and service providers to provide information to clients on needed resources
  • Work with landlords to mediate landlord/client issues and obtain necessary client documentation to provide rental assistance.
  • Provide client support by assessing client strengths and needs and developing goals and objectives in partnership with client.
  • Provide rental assistance by connecting low-income, unhoused individuals and families to appropriate housing.
  • Negotiate and prepare contracts between clients, landlords and other housing agencies.
  • Complete interim and annual recertification of rental assistance with clients.
  • On occasion, conduct meetings with clients at their homes. (SBCS provides mileage reimbursement).
  • Complete programmatic, data entry, quality assurance, and billing reports on a variety of software programs and required databases as requested and/or required.  
  • Conduct new client orientation
  • Organize and update referral systems
  • Maintain communication and relationships with funding sources.
  • Attend and participate in staff & team meetings.
  • Attend all agency required meetings and trainings 
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent, required. Bachelor’s degree in social science, psychology or related field preferred. 
  • Work or lived experience (either self or family) with homelessness or housing instability, preferred.  
  • Extensive knowledge of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) guidelines 
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. 
  • Maintain all case files following confidentiality guidelines.
  • Intermediate or advanced knowledge in Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook. 
  • Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving abilities, training skills, creativity, and public speaking. 
  • Ability to provide quality trauma-informed services in a fast-paced environment, specializing in crisis intervention and de-escalation, motivational interviewing, and Seeking Safety. 
  • Ability to (re) prioritize and multi-task is a must. 
  • As part of their daily work responsibilities, employee may be required to drive an agency vehicle and transport clients therefore candidate should hold a valid driver’s license, be insurable, bondable and have a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population, possess cultural sensitivity, and maintain appropriate boundaries with clients.

Conditions of Employment

  • Employment may be conditioned upon satisfactory completion of certain background clearances which may include a Department of Justice criminal background check requiring my fingerprints (Live Scan), Probation Clearances, Child Abuse Central Index Check (CACI), screening through the National Sex Offender Public Website, physical exam, drug test, tuberculosis (TB) test, Immunizations (TDAP, MMR, Influenza) and such additional clearances as may be required under the program. 

Physical demands:

  • Mentally and emotionally: Ability to work under deadlines, various projects and dealing with clients in crisis and difficult situations.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position during shift. 
  • Moves throughout the building. 
  • Moves, raises, or lowers (includes upward pulling) an object or equipment up to 50 lbs. 
  • Transports an object, from 20 to 50 lbs. across the facility, for various needs.
  • Ability to exert force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force. 
  • Ability to exert force upon an object so that the object moves toward the force (includes jerking) 
  • Ascending or descending stairs and ladders when applicable. Body agility is emphasized. 
  • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when ascending, descending, traversing.  
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles. 
  • Handling: Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with objects or office machinery. 
  • Communicating: Expressing or exchanging ideas. Communicating is important for those activities in which workers must impart information to clients or to the public, and in those activities in which they must convey detailed or important instructions to other workers accurately, or quickly.
