Position Summary
As the frequency and impacts of natural disasters continue to grow, SBP faces an expanding need for its BUILD program which provides home repair and reconstruction services for disaster impacted homeowners. With close to 4,000 homes repaired through the BUILD program to date, SBP is seeking an experience, passionate leader to scale SBP’s impact.
SBP’s BUILD program has operated across multiple disaster impacted communities serving thousands of low-income homeowners. BUILD combined philanthropic, grant and government funding to support the repair and resiliency modifications to disaster impacted homes. Leveraging a combination of AmeriCorps members, volunteers, staff and subcontractors, BUILD offers a predictable path home for the most vulnerable homeowners following disasters.
The Director – SBP BUILD provides direct oversight, support, and strategic guidance to a team of regional BUILD Directors, ensuring consistency, effectiveness, and impact in disaster recovery efforts. The Director plays a key leadership role in driving the program’s success across multiple communities. With a sharp focus on construction management, internal compliance, training, performance coaching, budget management and problem solving, the Director will ensure the BUILD program is positioned for further expansion into new communities.

Responsibilities:
Program Oversight & Compliance
- Execute SBP’s BUILD program strategy across multiple communities, ensuring alignment with organizational goal and local needs.
- Support and oversee regional Community Operations Directors ensuring they receive the guidance, resources, and training needed to implement programming effectively and in line with SBP best practices.
- Monitor program performance and impact, using data-driven insights to improve program delivery and outcomes.
- Contribute to the development of innovative program models, technical assistance frameworks, and best practices.
- Regularly inspect program performance against KPI’s. Collaborate with Community Operations Directors on course-correcting plans when necessary.
- Work across multiple SBP departments (Finance, HR, Development) to support internal reporting and compliance needs.
- Report on program performance, and challenges, to the Senior Director of Programs, maintaining close alignment on the current state of programs. Collaborate with the Senior Director on program improvement and optimization initiatives.
Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise and manage a team of Community Operations Directors, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct regular site visits, check-ins, performance evaluations, and professional development initiatives to strengthen leadership within the team.
- Promote cross-regional learning by facilitating knowledge sharing, training sessions, and collaboration.
- Support Community Operations Directors in navigating local challenges, securing partnerships, and implementing SBP’s technical assistance model effectively.
Operational & Financial Management
- Ensure program compliance with SBP policies, grant requirements, and relevant regulations. Maintain budge and cost adherence across programs.
- In collaboration with Community Operations Directors, inspect for additional resource needs and assign as necessary to support stability of operations and programming.
- Work in coordination with the Senior Director of Programs, Community Operations Directors, and the finance team to manage program budgets, track expenditures, and identify funding opportunities.
- Collaborate with the Development team on funding proposals, grant reporting and donor engagement events.
- Support grant reporting and funding proposals to sustain and grow the BUILD program.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
- Identify challenges and opportunities in program execution, developing solutions to enhance efficiency and impact.
- Pilot and refine new tools, training models, and methodologies to strengthen SBP’s approach to disaster recovery.
- Leverage program data and field insights to inform decision-making and drive program enhancements.
- Facilitate problem solving team events, exercising Lean/Six Sigma methodologies, that seek to eliminate waste and increase efficiency in the BUILD program.
- Facilitate key growth opportunities for SBP’s BUILD program, establishing new BUILD programs in new communities.
Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience in program management within the nonprofit sector, including leadership roles.
- 5 – 7 years of experience managing team members across a variety of programs.
- Proven success in developing, implementing, and scaling programs.
- Ability to travel 6-12 times per year.
- Experience managing budgets, grants, and compliance requirements.
- Fluency in Microsoft Office, Salesforce, and Google tools.
- Clear communication skills and a strong sense of maturity, positivity, and professionalism.
- Able to satisfactorily pass a Criminal History Check to include sex offender registry, Louisiana State Police, and FBI.
