JOB TITLE: Heavy Equipment Operator
S.C. Swiderski (SCS) is seeking an experienced and reliable Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. This role requires proficiency in operating excavation equipment, including bulldozers, forklifts, backhoes, dump trucks, skid steers, and snow removal equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and teamwork, contributing to the successful completion of excavation and construction projects while maintaining company equipment and project sites.
Job Responsibilities & Time Breakdown:
Heavy Equipment Operation (50%)
- Operate bulldozers, forklifts, backhoes, skid steers, and other excavation equipment safely and efficiently.
- Load, haul, and unload equipment and materials from vehicles and trailers.
- Dig and backfill foundations, footings, and trenches.
- Perform site grading and excavation to precise measurements.
Site Maintenance & Labor Support (25%)
- Assist with shoveling, grading, and exposing underground utilities.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas.
- Support snow removal operations as needed.
- Ensure proper storage and upkeep of company equipment and materials.
Leadership & Teamwork (15%)
- Work closely with the Excavation Manager to meet project deadlines.
- Provide mentorship and training to excavation crew members.
- Promote a safe and productive work environment while fostering team collaboration.
Documentation & Compliance (10%)
- Complete required paperwork and daily equipment inspections.
- Report necessary repairs, upgrades, or replacements for heavy equipment.
- Follow all OSHA and company safety regulations to ensure compliance.
Education & Experience:
Required:
? High school diploma or GED equivalent.
? Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation.
? CDL License
? 2 years of experience operating heavy equipment in a construction or excavation setting.
? Proficiency in excavation, grading, and trenching.
? Ability to read blueprints and site plans.
? Strong knowledge of OSHA safety standards.
Preferred:
? Experience with underground utility work.
? Experience operating a variety of equipment, including telehandlers and boom lifts.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and 80 pounds occasionally.
- Extended periods of standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing.
- Comfortable working in all weather conditions.
Work Environment & Schedule:
- Active construction and excavation sites with exposure to dust, noise, and power tools.
- Work in multi-story environments and varying terrain.
- Monday – Friday, 45-50 hours per week (some overtime and occasional overnight stays may be required).
- Regular in-state travel may be necessary.
