Mission of Position: As a member of the River Cities team, this position will develop community-facing programs for Scenic Hudson’s Northside Hub, its new office and community space in the City of Poughkeepsie’s Northside neighborhood. There are two main goals of this position. First is to advance the mission of Scenic Hudson and its River Cities program through programming that engages and meets the aspirations of community members of the Northside of Poughkeepsie. The second is to help the organization plan for the beneficial public use of other Scenic Hudson-owned properties in the immediate Northside neighborhood.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop and execute community-facing programming in the indoor community spaces and publicly accessible open space at Scenic Hudson’s Northside Hub.
- Ensure that programming engages a diverse audience of residents and visitors in ways that are inclusive, welcoming, and reflective of both community aspirations and Scenic Hudson’s mission.
- In collaboration with Scenic Hudson’s Strategic Engagement Team, implement and manage event concepts, including registration, budgeting, and logistics.
- Collaborate with other community organizations in developing programming and events that take advantage of synergies between our respective missions.
- Build outreach and engagement strategies in collaboration with the Director and other teams within Scenic Hudson.
- Coordinate this work with Scenic Hudson’s operations and facilities management team.
- In collaboration with Scenic Hudson’s Communications team, develop marketing and social media efforts for events.
- Develop, collect, and track engagement metrics and provide regular report outs to the Director.
- Work with Scenic Hudson’s Senior Community Projects Manager to develop/recruit a group of volunteers to assist with community engagement for the various spaces at the Northside Hub. Provide supervision and leadership to these volunteers.
- Assist Scenic Hudson’s River Cities and Parks Teams in community-based planning for the activation and development of Scenic Hudson properties at 150 and 164 Garden Street.
- Collaborate on other community engagement and environmental education activities in Poughkeepsie.
- Engage with the public and diverse stakeholders in promoting Scenic Hudson’s work.
- Attendance at periodic evening and weekend meetings and events.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- One to two years of experience in a similar position planning and executing community facing programs and events. A Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts can substitute for 1 year of professional experience.
- Experience developing partnerships in urban settings in the Hudson Valley. Work within the City of Poughkeepsie, with a variety of stakeholders including youth, at-risk populations, and/or diverse demographics is a plus.
- Experience in both independent and collaborative work environments.
- Must have creative problem-solving skills and be highly capable of addressing multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Strong organization and communication skills.
- Experience in education, environmental, or arts programming is appreciated.
- Spanish language proficiency is a plus.

The River Cities Program works alongside community members and local governments to create community-based plans that improve access to nature in Kingston, Newburgh, and Poughkeepsie. Our practice is rooted in enhancing urban ecosystems, promoting equity, and creating vibrant public spaces that support social and ecological wellbeing. We acknowledge and seek to redress the disproportionate impacts that historic and current racialized land use practices and the dual climate and biodiversity crises have on People of Color and lower wealth communities. We are an interdisciplinary team that works collaboratively with others within Scenic Hudson to combine technical skills with community knowledge and expertise to increase equitable access to nature and parks in these three cities.
Compensation: Full Time, with competitive benefits and a salary range of: $60,000 to $65,000
