Music Director (part-time $17.50/hour)

ABOUT US: Schaumburg Park District is an award-winning parks and recreation agency that provides its 80,000 residents with a wide variety of recreational programs, classes, and events as well as facilities, parks and open spaces! Our Cultural Arts Department is home to our outstanding theatre program which hosts various productions throughout the year.

JOB SUMMARY: The Music Director collaborates with the production team to develop musical concepts and interpretations that align with the goals and values of the Schaumburg Park District. They participate in auditions and casting sessions to select participants for productions. The Music Director directs rehearsals and provides musical guidance to performers, musicians, and technical crew members. They arrange and adapt musical scores as needed to accommodate the abilities and resources of our cast and orchestra. The Music Director will also provide ongoing support and feedback to performers and musicians, helping them develop their skills and confidence while prioritizing health and wellness. This position starts in May 2025 and culminates in our performances July 18th and 19th.

LOCATION: Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Rd., Schaumburg

QUALIFICATIONS: Previous experience as a Music Director or similar role in musical theatre required, preferably in a community or educational setting. A successful candidate will be reliable and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with individuals of all ages and backgrounds. Strong musical proficiency, including experience in vocal coaching and conducting required. Proficiency in piano and ability to accompany live performance is preferred. Knowledge of musical theatre repertoire and styles highly desirable. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age with a High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred.

SCHEDULING & PAY: This is a part-time position with varying hours. Rehearsal schedule is evenings M-Th and Sunday afternoons. Additional nights and weekend hours will be required in the week leading up to the performance.

 Pay rate is at $17.50 per hour.
