- Previous administrative experience K-8 preferred; demonstrate a clear understanding of state and federal laws relating to the delivery of specialized services and the education of exceptional children.
- A record of exemplary instructional practices working with students, a deep knowledge of teaching and learning, an understanding of curriculum, competency-based instruction, the ability to model best teaching practices, an exceptional work ethic and ability to work well within a team setting.
- Provides leadership in creating and maintaining a mission/vision for education at Chichester Central School and in developing goals and pedagogies that complement that mission/vision.
- Under the direction of the Principal, conducts staff observations, writes evaluations, and provides feedback to staff. Works with the administrative team in the interviewing, hiring, and orienting of new staff.
- Works with the leadership team and staff to communicate instructional beliefs and practices and school performance results to the public.
- Oversee all aspects of the special education process for the district.
- This position may have to provide a small amount of direct services.
- Plans, coordinates, and monitors grants while ensuring compliance.
- Monitors and evaluates grant-funded programs and projects.
- Coordinate the delivery of services to all children with special needs, to include, IDEA, Title I, and 504’s.
- Oversee the work of special education staff in their function as case managers for individual children.
- Act as liaison with parents throughout the special education process.
- Actively work to maintain an inclusive environment where special needs children receive necessary support and services in the least restrictive environment possible in the mainstream wherever feasible and in the best interests of the child.
- Work with the Principal to develop and implement the special education budget, using the philosophy of meeting each child’s needs fully in the most fiscally responsible way possible.
- Oversee the maintenance of accurate and organized documentation of the special education process, in keeping with legal requirements, and generally accepted standards of office procedure.
- Engage in appropriate professional development activities to remain abreast of current developments in educational theory, practice, and responsibilities, appropriate to the position.
- Be an active member of the Chichester Central School staff, contributing to a tolerant atmosphere and a professional approach by adults to education of children.
- Participate in the life of the school by attending school events and assisting with student supervision as directed by the Principal.
- Carry out other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Principal and the Superintendent of Schools.
- Supervises operations of the school in the Principal’s absence.

Job Summary:
The Assistant Principal/Special Services Coordinator is responsible for aligning and coordinating the special services available with Counseling, School Nurse, Related Service Providers, and Special Education staff for the special education student population. They will serve as the LEA representative for special education and coordinate long and short range planning for programs, in accordance with the identified needs of the population.
Additionally, the Assistant Principal/Special Services Coordinator is responsible for providing educational leadership under the direction of the Principal in the areas of curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional development at Chichester Central School. Working with the Principal, he/she will oversee Title I and grant programming while also promoting a school climate where student learning and staff effectiveness is maximized by providing support to both staff and students daily.
