What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Vocal Arts position at School City of Hammond?
The Hammond Academy for the Performing Arts, a pre-professional integrated academic program for high school students within Northwest Indiana (30 Miles outside of Chicago) is seeking a Director of Vocal Arts for the 2023-24 academic year. HAPA is a school-within-a-school model. Students attend regular core curriculum at Morton High School in Hammond, Indiana while simultaneously serving their arts ambitions. This year begins a transition year as HAPA grows to a full district model serving both Hammond campuses as well as an aligned collaboration of arts programming for K-12 levels.
The Director of Vocal Arts is responsible for the choral program at HAPA and has an opportunity to build and extend the program based upon their passions and the progressive needs of our students. The ideal candidate will be able to serve elective students in an effort to enlighten them as to the essential need of music while also pushing the advanced HAPA program students to further their skills. There is enormous potential for Gospel, Urban, Jazz, Contemporary music based upon the candidate’s interest and ability. The candidate will also have opportunity to serve creatively in directing/musically directing/coordinating district wide programs and productions. These are additional stipend opportunities. This individual will also assist in ISSMA competitions and events as deemed appropriate.
