What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building and Grounds Lead Worker position at School District 197?
- Operate and maintain HVAC equipment and other related mechanical equipment
- Perform regular custodial duties such as mopping, sweeping, removing trash/recycling/compost, cleaning glass, vacuuming, changing light bulbs, etc.
- Ensures assigned work areas are covered and completed during fully-staffed and short-staffed scenarios
- Set-up and clean-up for special events and community rentals
- Reports maintenance needs to Lead Custodian/Building Engineer
- Locks and unlocks doors in building according to scheduled activities
- Pick up trash outside the building
- Provides training to new custodians
- Assist in removal of snow as required at building entries
- Other tasks as directed
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 1st Class Engineer License is required for this assigned building
- Registered Unlicensed Electrician License preferred.
- Previous custodial experience
- Demonstrated ability to lead and assign work to others
- Ability to anticipate action steps and provide leadership to complete daily building work-flow
- Accept appropriate decision making authority as relates to the duties of the position.
- Able to operate equipment associated with custodial operations
- Knowledge of standard safety procedures associated with this work
- Able to follow oral and written directions
- Experience working as a larger team, while performing tasks independently
- High degree of flexibility
- Proven record of reporting to work on a regular and punctual basis
- Promote positive relationships with District 197 employees and community members
- Valid driver's license and good driving record are required at all times if driving district vehicles
- A written or hands-on test may be administered to verify abilities

POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position is responsible for custodial functions at District 197 schools.
Essential functions of the job include but are not limited to the following:
Working Conditions: Tasks involve long periods of walking, standing, stooping, lifting etc. Although minimized by safety practices, accidents, chemical and physical hazards connected with this work are always present. This position may be working around small children requiring extreme vigilance in minimizing possible accidents and access to undesirable areas.
Physical Requirements: This position requires good physical conditioning, strength, agility, and endurance with no serious defect of vision, hearing or extremities that would hinder the ability to perform the essential functions of the job. Must be able to lift 75# on a regular basis.
Contacts and Relationships: Persons in this position come into contact with teachers, students, parents, staff etc. Communication, personal appearance, cooperative attitude, willingness to assist, and establish good working relationships is essential.
