Description
The School District of La Crosse is accepting applications from candidates for a 1.0 FTE Accounting Specialist at the Hogan Administrative Center. This is a nonunion, hourly position. Projected start date: February 7, 2025.

Recruited by: Supervisor of Finance
Compensation: Set annually by the District
ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVES:
This is a leadership position to assist the Supervisor of Finance with maintaining District financial records to assure fiduciary and legal compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations and to prepare and issue accurate and timely financial reports and analysis to District administrators, the Board of Education, and outside agencies; to ensure financial obligations are met; maintain internal accounting control system to assure assets are secure against loss, unauthorized use, or disposition; and ensure financial transactions are completed according to management authorization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Lead the maintenance of a complete and systematic set of records of all financial transactions of the School District within Department of Public Instruction requirements, board policy, and administrative directives.
2. Record detail of all financial transactions in appropriate jounals and ledgers from sources such as requisitions, payroll records, invoices, receipts, etc.
3. Prepare financial reports as needed. These include, but are not limited to, department level reports, Board of Education reports, Administrative Budget reports, District Audit reports, and the DPI Financial and Budget Reports.
4. Prepare reports, workpapers, schedules, and supporting documents for the annual financial audit and DPI monitoring reviews.

Qualifications
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent prior accounting experience required.
- Knowledge of and experience with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Three to five years of progressively responsible job duties (prior educational experience preferred).
- Strong computer skills including accounting software, Microsoft Office programs, and 10-key data entry.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Superior analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Strong work ethic and teamwork skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments at one time and work accurately while meeting deadlines.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Accounting experience with large public school district preferred.
- Familiarity with WUFAR (Wisconsin Uniform Financial Accounting Requirements) and Department of Public Instruction reporting requirements.
- Competency with management information systems as they relate to accounting, financial management, and human resources databases.
- Knowledge of and experience with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
- School Business Management coursework towards DPI 5008 License Certification preferred.
