What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodial Coordinator position at School District of Nekoosa?
This position requires a value-added, positive individual with excellent leadership skills who is a self-starter. In addition to general maintenance and cleaning of the district facilities and grounds, this individual will be in charge of overseeing and giving direction to the high school custodians.

Performance Responsibilities
- Provide minor maintenance to interior and exterior of the building.
- Directs summer cleaning crew assignments made by the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor regardless of building.
- Coordinate maintenance vehicles and machinery (e.g.: oil changes, tune-ups, and tires.)
- Sweep, mop, scrub, seal, and finish floors.
- Clean windows, walls, sinks, toilets, drinking fountains, etc.
- Clean physical facilities (e.g.: dust, vacuum, clean carpet, etc.).
- Clean up body fluids as needed.
- Remove snow from sidewalks.
- Assist in building maintenance checks and inspections.
- Maintain custodial supplies and equipment and inform supervisor of needs.
- Complete relevant maintenance reports.
- Keep inventory of materials and equipment needed.
- Track work projects and ensure timely completion of same.
- Utilize ladders and scaffolds as needed.
- Enforce and obey all safety rules and regulations.
- Operate a variety of district vehicles when necessary.
- Train and orient new staff on day-to-day procedures.
- Train and orient existing staff on new procedures.
- Perform minor maintenance projects (e.g.: paint, change light bulbs, and basic plumbing).
- Maintain building safety and security (e.g.: lock/unlock doors, turn security lights on/off, etc.)
- Must have a valid driver’s license and means to move from building to building when requested. Such additions to the above qualifications as the school district finds desirable from time to time.
Other Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining appropriate student behavior on school grounds and at school activities.
- Assist with loading and unloading trucks.
- Deliver or pick up materials.
- Assume other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
Equipment Used
An individual is expected to use equipment normally associated with the duties of the position including snow blower, vacuum cleaner, buffer, scrub-wax-shampoo machine, stripper, hand tools, van, shovels, wheeled carts, ladders, and power tools.
Physical Abilities
- Frequent standing and walking with occasional stooping, and kneeling.
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
- Requires use of hands for handling tools and controls.
- Requires hand strength to grasp tools and climb ladders.
- Requires bending at the neck and back.
- Ability to move throughout the building and on the grounds.
Education and Experience
- Must possess a minimum of a high school degree or GED.
- Experience in custodial or related work.
- Prefer previous proven supervision.
Work Environment
Work is performed indoors and outdoors under varied weather conditions with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may work with chemicals such as paints, solvents, cleaning products and fuel. The employee must be able to work alone. Noise level is moderate to occasionally noisy. Work hours may be irregular.
