Instructor - Welding Technology

The primary role of the full-time Instructor – Welding Technology as part of the teaching faculty, is to promote student success in a professional and ethical manner. Responsible for instructing and facilitating student learning; committed to student recruitment and retention; assessment of learning, development of curriculum, and the use of classroom instruction. This position is part of the teaching faculty and reports to the designated administrator.

• Associate’s degree in Welding Technology or related area.

• Five (5) years of welding experience including structural plate and hollow structures.

• Current AWS Certified Welder (CW) endorsement.

• Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) endorsement.

• Understanding of the role of the community college in higher education and the community.

• Competent in welding ferrous and nonferrous in all positions to a code or standard.

• Competent in writing and following a Welding Procedure Specification.

• Must be able to lift and move objects of 50 pounds.

• Bachelor’s degree in Welding Technology or related area.

• Two (2) or more years of post-secondary teaching experience.

• Current AWS Welder Qualification endorsement.

• Competent in AWS A2.4 and ISO 2553.

• Knowledgeable in the learning needs and abilities of today’s community college student.

• Written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal skills which demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively, effectively, and responsibly with community college students, faculty and staff.

• Commitment to provide service to the department, campus, and the larger community.

• Writing Skills: Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
• Communication Skills: Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from prospective and current employees, and groups of managers.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

• Office Environment: This role may involve being in a stationary position in front of a computer, using a keyboard, mouse (or applicable equipment) and telephone. Communicating and exchanging information with individuals electronically or in person. This role may also involve standing and walking for periods of time, and the use of hands and moving objects on occasion, of up to 50 lbs.
• Noise Level: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Per Faculty Contract: Approx 15 contact hrs/week for base load of Fall and Winter semesters; approx 31 weeks for base load of Fall and Winter semesters.
