Job Summary
The Program Coordinator for Fire Technology will be responsible for the oversight of comprehensive fire science programs which include basic fire academy instruction, fire science academic instruction as well as in-service training courses in cooperation with all other public safety programs and team members at the Public Safety Training Complex.

This position will be required to make data informed decisions, relying on specialized knowledge to develop strategies in the attainment of the desired objectives of an innovative training environment for all public safety programs and academies at the Schoolcraft College Public Training Complex under the direct supervision of the Associate Dean of Public Safety Programs.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Fire Technology or a related field.
  • Five (5) years supervisory experience in fire technology or related field.
  • Ten (10) years experience as a State certified professional firefighter.
  • Five (5) years experience as a State certified firefighter instructor.
  • Ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships with students, public safety training staff, other staff members of Schoolcraft College, fire fighting organizations and Fire Fighting Training Council staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to prepare and present professional reports to supervisors and the training council.
  • Ability to understand and operate appropriate office equipment, including personal computers and working knowledge of department-specific software.
  • Ability to prepare and manage training grant funds.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Fire Technology or a related field.
  • Ten (10) years of supervisory experience in fire technology or a related field.

  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide with all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Office Environment: This role may involve being in a stationary position in front of a computer, using a keyboard, mouse (or applicable equipment) and telephone. This role may also involve standing and walking for periods of time, and the use of hands and moving objects up to 10 lbs. and up to 25 lbs. and on occasion.
