Who we're looking for


Reporting to Schroders Capital's Global Head of Business Development and Product, the successful candidate will be based in Shanghai or Beijing and will serve as the specialist salesperson for private equity covering primarily institutional and/or wealth fundraising in the Chinese market.


As a member of the newly created and expanding Schroders Capital Business Development Team, the chosen candidate will be responsible for managing and developing relationships with existing clients of Schroders Capital and establishing new relationships with prospective investors. Across both, the candidate is expected to generate new opportunities and to manage the sales process and other internal stakeholders to ensure the continued growth of the Schroders Capital franchise in partnership with the broader Schroders sales team.

The global team


The 40 strong Schroders Capital Business Development team is being developed as part of a strategic initiative to realise our growth ambitions and expand the firm's global footprint. The team of private market business development experts works hand in hand with the relevant investment teams and relationship managers on the ground to promote the full spectrum of Schroders Capital's private markets capabilities and unlock new opportunities.

Private equity


Schroders Capital's private equity team focuses on effecting transformational growth across buyouts and venture through operational expertise. Specifically, we invest in lower mid-market buyouts and growth businesses, particularly founder and family-run businesses, and in access-restricted global venture capital managers, with a tech and biotech focus. We specialise across healthcare, technology, consumer, business services and industrials. We have a global team with a strong track record, leading sustainability and impact competence, and unique deal flow and sourcing capabilities. We offer directs, secondaries and primaries across funds, solutions and separate accounts.


We are investing significant resources to develop our private equity fundraising capability in China. We have had a private equity investment team in China for almost 20 years investing in the leading Chinese private equity and VC funds as well as co-investments and secondaries. Primarily this has been for international investors looking to invest in China. Our objective is to now expand our China sales capabilities to offer both China specific strategies as well as global private equity portfolios. Specifically, we are looking for a candidate to cover institutional and/ or wealth fundraising.

What you'll do


•    This role is an active sales and servicing function for private equity.
•    The candidate will primarily serve as a specialist for the private equity product suite interfacing with the institutional and/or wealth clients in the Chinese market. 
•    The candidate will be responsible for educational support for new and existing clients as well as the prospecting of new and existing private equity investors.
•    The candidate responsibilities will also include ownership of certain business development metrics.
•    The candidate will be ambitious and proactive in managing the growth of our investment offerings in the region as measured by new client acquisition, annual gross fundraising and net new revenue in private equity.

The knowledge, experience and qualifications you need


•    Existing book of investor relationships with the private equity community in China;
•    Proven sales track record with the above investor base and demonstrable negotiation skills;
•    Proactive attitude and drive to develop senior level business relationships;
•    Responsive and strong client focus;
•    Ability to convey information in a clear, concise, and accurate manner;
•    Strong detail and results orientation and an ability to work creatively in a fast-paced environment;
•    Ability to work with other senior executives to facilitate joint client development;
•    Demonstrate honesty and integrity in dealing with others. Work effectively with different types of people and other teams;
•    Clear understanding of the sales dynamic and timetable around semi-liquid and illiquid products and SMAs;  
•    While being able to operate ‘unsupervised', you will enjoy working in a team and bringing others with you. As such regular, clear communication is essential;
•    Demonstrable competency in sales or business development preferably for a fund/investment/asset management firm, insurance company, consultant, placement agent or other sell-side business;
•    Strong understanding of private equity more generally and current trends for Chinese institutional and/or wealth clients;
•    A good understanding of and experience in negotiating key commercial points related to fundraising as well as co-investments and SMAs;
•    Proven track record of identifying and securing full-service business in top tier accounts;
•    Ability to identify and articulate new product ideas or product features that would help to scale fundraising in China;
•    Previous experience in impact/ESG will be considered a plus;
•    Skilled in performing presentations and leading meetings;
•    Fluent written and spoken English and Chinese.
