Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution with a major in Early Childhood/Special Education N-12
  • PA Certificate: Early Childhood/Special Education N-12

Essential Responsibilities:

  • To develop and implement instructional programs for students eligible to receive early intervention services ages 3-5 years old in Schuylkill intermediate Unit 29 Early Intervention Program.

Responsibilities:

  • Delivers instruction utilizing appropriate resources, materials, equipment, technology and instructional strategies.
  • Implements specially designed instruction for each student, per the IEP.
  • Administers appropriate and required informal and formal assessments based on student needs and State Regulations.
  • Collects and interprets data and utilizes it to modify instruction, content, and to report progress.
  • Summarizes assessment results and incorporates this information and input from other staff members and administrators into the Evaluation Report and/or Reevaluation Report and utilizes this information to develop/modify and appropriate IEP.
  • At least annually, uses assessment and progress monitoring data. as well as the PA Academic Standards to develop appropriate goals and objectives for the student.
  • Works in conjunction with the IEP Team to determine related services and develop specially designed instruction for the student and then incorporate these into the instructional program.
  • Works in conjunction with the IEP Team to determine the Least Restrictive Environment for the student based on all Federal and State Regulations (i.e. IDEA, OCR, Chapter 14).
  • Follows the appropriate chain of command when questions, issues, and/or concerns arise.
  • Apprises all parties who have a legitimate educational interest in the student of meetings, concerns, progress, and other issues.
  • Establishes and maintains a cooperative and professional relationship with peers, support staff, parents, IU administration, agency staff, early childhood programs and school district personnel.
  • Establishes a schedule for reevaluations, IEPs and other record keeping responsibilities.
  • Gets input from parents, support staff, regular education teachers and agencies that provide services to the student.
  • Accurately completes all required paperwork within the designated timelines.
  • Utilizes all available resource materials (i.e IU29 website, Collective Bargaining Agreement, Professional Code of Conduct, OCDEL Announcements, Procedural Manual, IU29 Policies, etc.) to complete required paperwork, maintain professionalism and to avoid potential violations/noncompliance.
  • Cooperates with Federal, State, and Local Agency Personnel during Special Education and other Compliance Monitoring and/or dispute resolution activities.
  • Attends in-service programs, mandated trainings and self-selected workshops, conferences, courses, etc.
  • Reads journal articles, investigates internet resources and collaborates with other professionals and/or mentors.
  • Keeps certificate current and active by monitoring status, including Act 48 hours, on the PDE website.

Method of Evaluation

  • Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Supervisor of Early Intervention in accordance with provisions established by the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit #29 Evaluation Process for Professional Employees.

  • None

Terms of Employment:

  • This position follows the 185 day teachers’ Early Intervention Stretch Calendar. Salary and work year established by a negotiated agreement between the Intermediate Unit Board of Directors and the Teachers’ Bargaining Unit.

  • This is an active position requiring the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 lbs.; verbal and hearing skills to effectively communicate; visual acuity to oversee projects, and make observations. Work is done mainly indoors but could include outside tasks.
