The Schwarzman Animal Medical Center is seeking Licensed Veterinary Technician in Surgery across to support our non-profit mission of delivering world-class care to our patients.
Responsibilities
- Training in Anesthesia, Recovery, General Surgery, Emergency Room, and the Operating Room.
- Assist with all aspects of patient care from admission through discharge.
- Provide anesthesia support and nursing care primarily for the Surgery Department.
- Provide exceptional and compassionate care for our patients from admission through discharge
- Support veterinarians in all facets of care, including interpreting and executing treatment directives
- Complete all necessary technical procedures and treatments, with strict adherence to department and hospital protocols
- Communicate professionally with clients and referral veterinarians
- Maintain concise and accurate records of the patient’s treatment progress and charges
- Maintain stock, order supplies, and assist with cleaning and maintaining cleanliness of ward
- Participate in the training of new employees and volunteers
- Participate in educational and research projects
- All other related duties as assigned
Duties
Will include but not be limited to;
- Providing anesthesia support for other clinical departments
- Client communication
- Patient care
- Troubleshooting, operation, care and maintenance of surgical and anesthetic equipment
- Maintenance of inventory
- Participation in an overnight anesthesia on-call rotation
- Research/educational projects.
Qualifications
- Must have a New York State Veterinary Technician’s license or permit
- Must have an advanced anesthesia skill set and be able to perform all the associated with a critical and emergent anesthesia procedure.
- The equivalent of 6 months training is required in the Surgery Department of the Animal Center.
- Knowledge and ability to remain of the techniques associated with advanced care of veterinary patients is preferred.
- The candidate must be able to lead and act autonomously during a crisis and be able to adept at crash medicine and resuscitation.
- A strong skill set in phlebotomy, catheter placement, anesthesia protocols, anesthesia monitoring and post-operative care is essential.
- The individual must be flexible about working additional hours when necessary and have a willingness and determination to remain on the cutting edge of veterinary anesthesia and veterinary neurology.
- Must have animal handling experience and ability to lift and restrain animals weighing up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to work successfully as part of a team
- Must also be able work independently and proactively
- Must establish and maintain effective, respectful working relationships and customer satisfaction with all stakeholders, including department staff, medical staff, support staff, clients, and referring veterinarians
- Must have ability to remain composed in stressful and emergency situations
