POSITION SUMMARY: Maintains Schweitzers trail system for the enjoyment and safety of skiers and snowboarders.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Snowcat operation. Snowcats are operated in extreme weather conditions, on snow and ice. Seat belts must always be worn. There is the possibility for sudden and hard jarring movements while operating the machine. Machinery is all electronic no clutch. Will perform minor repairs on snowcats and check machinery before and after operation. Will follow the direction of the foreman or designated lead operator for each shift. Must know Schweitzer terrain. Will operate a two-way radio; will assist other departments to transport people, materials and refuse; will log in shift activity reports, hours, fuel, and problems on shift.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position is a sitting job for up to 7 hours plus per shift. During fall mountain set-up, shut down and other times, crew members could be doing more manual labor (ex: putting up or tearing down fencing), which would increase the walking, lifting, and carrying physical demands. Must stand/walk for safety check of vehicle and paperwork completion. Lunch break for one half hour and breaks on an as-needed basis. May lift up to 35 pounds on a rare to occasional basis. May lift 100 lbs occasionally (assistance available for heavy weights). Will bend, squat, kneel and reach above shoulder level occasionally. Will climb and twist occasionally. All sensory skills are required. Will use hands for grasping, pushing/pulling (hooking up implements) and fine manipulation for writing. Exposed to all temperatures, moisture conditions. Work site is 80% inside (cab) and 20% outside. Exposed to fumes, mists, gases, poor ventilation, mechanical, burns, explosives (batteries), and snow/ice/oil hazards.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: Must have or be willing to obtain extensive knowledge of Schweitzer facilities and events. Responsibilities are listed as guidelines and the position is not necessarily limited to these items. Position is contingent upon completion of a negative drug screen.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
SKILLS: Driving heavy equipment
EDUCATION: English reading, writing, communication; basic math
EXPERIENCE: Experience with Hydrostatic drives / Hydraulic controls helpful
LICENSE NEEDED: None
MACHINES OR TOOLS OPERATED: Groomers, mechanic tools, shop vehicles, winch cats, snowmakers, chain saws.
