Coordinator of Exceptional Learning

About Science & Arts Academy (SAA):

Science & Arts Academy (SAA) is an independent JK-8 school dedicated to nurturing gifted learners. We recognize that some gifted students, known as twice-exceptional (2e), possess high intellectual abilities alongside learning differences such as ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, executive functioning challenges, and language-based learning differences. Our mission is to provide an environment that fosters both their strengths and supports their unique challenges, ensuring they reach their full potential.

Position Overview:

SAA is seeking a knowledgeable and compassionate Coordinator of Exceptional Learning to oversee the development and implementation of support systems for twice-exceptional (2e) and neurodiverse students. This individual will be responsible for designing Tier I supports and developing Tier II and Tier III interventions to ensure that every student has access to appropriate accommodations and enrichment opportunities.

A key focus of this role is collaborating with teachers to build their capacity in supporting 2e students and ensuring that Tier I practices are effective, inclusive, and responsive. This role will also require close collaboration with parents and administrators to create individualized support plans that align with students strengths and challenges. Ideally, the candidate will be able to administer and interpret IQ assessments to provide deeper insights into student learning needs.

Key Responsibilities:

Student Support and Intervention:

Develop and oversee individualized support plans for students with learning differences, addressing both giftedness and challenges such as ADHD, ASD, executive functioning difficulties, and language-based learning needs.

Implement Tier I classroom supports and design Tier II and Tier III interventions to provide targeted support for students.

  • Administer IQ assessments (if certified) and interpret results to inform instructional strategies and intervention planning.
  • Coordinate and monitor Tier II interventions

Monitor student progress and adjust support plans based on data, teacher observations, and parent feedback.

Teacher Collaboration and Professional Development:

Work closely with teachers to strengthen their understanding and implementation of Tier I practices for 2e students.

Provide faculty with ongoing professional development, coaching, and resources on differentiation, executive functioning strategies, and neurodiverse learning needs.

Support faculty in integrating evidence-based strategies into their instructional practices to meet the needs of 2e students.

Parent and Administrative Collaboration:

Partner with parents and families to discuss student progress, challenges, and strategies for support both at school and at home.

Collaborate with school administrators and student support teams to ensure consistency in student support services across grade levels.

Participate in admissions assessments and placement recommendations for students with unique learning profiles.

Qualifications:

Educational Background:

Masters degree in Special Education, School Psychology, Educational Psychology, or a related field.

Experience:

Demonstrated experience working with twice-exceptional students or students with learning differences in an educational setting.

Strong background in designing and implementing Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) or a similar framework.

Skills and Competencies:

Deep understanding of learning differences, including ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, executive functioning challenges, and language-based learning needs.

Ability to administer and interpret IQ assessments (preferred but not required).

Excellent communication and collaboration skills to support students, teachers, and families.

Strong commitment to inclusive, student-centered education that fosters both academic and social-emotional growth.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. It ranges from approximately $60,000 to $80,000 per year. SAA offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and retirement plan options.
