Job Title: Safety Specialist
Science, Engineering, Management Solutions, LLC (Sem-Sol) is a small business located in Albuquerque, NM. The company consists of skilled scientists, engineers and technicians that specialize in directed energy and pulsed power systems.
Sem-Sol is seeking a Safety Specialist to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating, overseeing and managing safety programs, ensuring full compliance with safety regulations, and fostering a safety-conscious culture throughout the company.
Duties will include:
- Creating, overseeing, and managing company-wide safety programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA standards.
- Developing, implementing, and regularly updating safety policies, procedures, and training programs to meet operational needs.
- Coordinating safety inspections and hazard assessments, identifying potential risks, and recommending effective solutions to mitigate hazards.
- Preparing, reviewing, and maintaining safety reports, records, and documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies.
- Collaborating with senior management to ensure safety measures are effectively integrated into daily operations and project planning.
- Providing programmatic oversight for safety-related initiatives, including tracking progress, schedules, and budgets for safety projects.
- Supporting project teams in risk management and ensuring that safety concerns are identified and addressed during engineering and operational processes.
- Leading the efforts to maintain a culture of safety within the company by ensuring safety protocols are followed at all times.
- Acting as a liaison with regulatory agencies, ensuring safety audits and inspections are conducted effectively, and addressing any findings.
- Leading incident investigations, documenting findings, and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence of safety issues.
- Providing leadership and guidance on safety-related aspects of projects, ensuring continuous improvement in safety practices.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Safety Specialist, Safety Officer, or in a similar role, preferably in a defense contractor or high-security environment.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, federal safety standards, and defense industry-specific safety requirements.
- Demonstrated experience conducting risk assessments, safety audits, and developing corrective action plans.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively engage with employees, contractors, and management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
Desired Skills/Experience/Qualifications:
- OSHA certification or other safety-related certifications.
- Previous experience in defense contractor environments or high-security facilities.
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and defense-specific safety regulations.
- Experience conducting safety training sessions and emergency drills, particularly in high-stakes environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proven ability to assess safety risks and implement corrective actions effectively.
