Position Summary
The primary functions of this role are the design, development, and implementation of safety programs that ensure a safe, accident free and healthy work environment in our Distribution Centers throughout an assigned region. The Safety Specialist will drive continuous improvement efforts to ensure success in achieving compliance and a best in class safety culture at all levels within the organization.

Position Safety Specialist
Position Summary
The primary functions of this role are the design, development, and implementation of safety programs that ensure a safe, accident free and healthy work environment in our Distribution Centers throughout an assigned region. The Safety Specialist will drive continuous improvement efforts to ensure success in achieving compliance and a best in class safety culture at all levels within the organization.
Essential Functions
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local environmental and safety regulations
- Assist with completing Environmental reports such as Tier II reports, Hazardous Material Management plans, Hazardous Material Inventory statements, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plan, above ground storage tank permits and regulations, etc.
- Ensure Chemicals and products are safely stored in Distribution Center’s in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Knowledgeable of NFPA, EPA, OSHA, Worker’s Compensation and DOT regulations
- Manage Safety Data Sheets for all locations.
- Assist with compliance training to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Stay updated on Environmental regulation changes or updates.
- Collaborate with Environmental vendors to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Assists Distribution Centers with spill response and training.
- Conduct Annual Safety Audits for assigned Distribution Centers and follow up for resolution to opportunities found.
- Assist in new Distribution Center set ups to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Train new leaders within the organization.
- Prepare and communicate weekly and monthly safety and environmental training material to the team.
- Address any Environmental items that arise throughout the company.
- Lead incident investigations for determination of root cause(s) and recommend and ensure corrective action for future prevention. Communicate lessons learned across the Company.
- Manage Workers Compensation process to minimize claims and loss
- Develop and maintain a process to ensure Distribution Centers achieve compliance in safe working conditions, DOT regulations, housekeeping standards, powered equipment specifications and use, and physical methods of accomplishing assigned tasks
- Identify and deliver standardized safety training on a continuous basis to Distribution Centers
- Understand loss control and prevention issues to assist Distribution Centers in best practices
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Health & Safety (or equivalent)
- 3-6 years experience with corporate safety programs
- Strong relationship building skills
- Strong communication skills
- Self-starter and proactive thinker
- The ability to work in a team environment
- Well organized and results oriented
- Ability to multi task and prioritize is needed
- Advanced knowledge and the ability to work with MS Office – Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- Ability to pass a background check & drug test
- Travel is required up to 50% including overnight travel
