Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Nonprofit Auditor on behalf of our partner, a well-established nonprofit organization committed to elevating communities through business investment. This temporary, remote role is based in Los Angeles, CA with the opportunity to directly support communities in southern California.
The ideal candidate will have extensive auditing experience, including strong experience in the nonprofit sector. They will be detail-oriented, analytical, and skilled in conducting financial audits, ensuring compliance, and identifying areas for process improvement. A successful candidate will bring expertise in QuickBooks Online, nonprofit financial regulations, and internal controls.

RESPONSIBILITIES
· Conduct audits in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), including testing financial records, analyzing transactions, and performing procedures to form an independent audit opinion.
· Assess accounting policies and evaluate the reasonableness of significant estimates made by management to ensure financial accuracy and compliance.
· Examine financial statements, including statements of financial position, activities, functional expenses, and cash flows, ensuring completeness and adherence to reporting standards.
· Analyze supporting documentation and records to verify material transactions and their impact on financial reporting.
· Ensure unrestricted access to relevant personnel and data necessary to obtain audit evidence and perform comprehensive assessments.
· Identify and report material misstatements, including errors, fraudulent financial reporting, or misappropriation of assets, and escalate any violations of laws or regulations as required.
· Provide reasonable assurance that financial statements are free from material misstatements due to fraud, error, or regulatory violations.
· Issue an independent auditor’s report summarizing findings and providing an opinion on whether the financial statements are presented fairly in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
· Maintain audit integrity by adhering to professional standards, ensuring objectivity, and limiting the scope of responsibility strictly to the audit period.
· Communicate findings and collaborate with management to address any discrepancies, financial risks, or areas of improvement identified during the audit process.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 7 years of experience in auditing, including 5 years in nonprofit financial audits.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA or CIA certification preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, internal auditing principles, and grant compliance.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Microsoft Excel, and financial reporting tools.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting audit findings and collaborating with teams.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities effectively.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This temporary, remote opportunity in Los Angeles offers an hourly rate of $55-60/hr.
