Scion Executive Search has been retained to identify the incoming Vice President of Strategy on behalf of our client, The Arc Central Chesapeake Region (The Arc), a nonprofit dedicated to serving children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) throughout Anne Arundel County and Maryland's Eastern Shore. The Arc's mission is to support people with IDD to live the lives they choose by creating opportunities, promoting respect and equity, and providing access to services.

The right individual for this role will have expertise in leading growth initiatives, project managing enterprise strategic plans, and cross-collaboration to achieve mission goals. This full-time, exempt opportunity is for immediate hire. Based out of The Arc's HQ in Linthicum Heights, Maryland, this position will require significant regional travel.

ABOUT LINTHICUM HEIGHTS, MARYLAND :

Situated in the northern part of Anne Arundel County, Maryland, Linthicum is home to a wide variety of industries and a thriving community of friendly, close-knit residents. It is a delightfully temperate locale offering scenic hiking trails, picturesque waterways, and a thriving visual and performing arts scene. Just a short distance from BWI Airport, Linthicum is also home to the BWI Business District, an area boasting a variety of restaurants, retail, and lodging options.

POSITION OVERVIEW :

Reporting to the President & CEO and as a key member of The Arc's Executive Leadership Team, The Vice President of Strategy will support the organization's strategic priorities and lead activities related to the execution and implementation of The Arc's strategic plan and growth strategy. Serving as a trusted senior advisor, this role will facilitate high-level meetings and assume interim leadership of divisions / departments when needed.

The Vice President of Strategy will approach the work with a cross-functional (department / division, organization, and community) mindset and will assume primary responsibility for select projects and initiatives. This role works in tight partnership with the Chief Program Officer and Senior Vice President of Community Development on all growth initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

Essential Functions

In partnership with the President & CEO and senior leaders, execute the organizational strategy to fulfill the mission and vision of The Arc :

  • Manage the implementation, review, benchmarking, and reporting of The Arc's strategic plan to ensure program and organizational-wide progress is met and remains aligned with human capital capacity, financial resources, and stakeholder support.
  • Support and project manage the development of The Arc's operational goals and performance indicators; assist divisions / departments with the development of their annual operation plans.
  • Lead the development of new programs and initiatives through collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and strategic alliances.
  • Support the business strategy and scalability of behavioral health, housing, and other key growth areas.
  • Support growth strategies and strategic initiatives across the organization :

  • Lead the expansion of The Arc to new geographic regions; work in partnership with the Chief Program Officer and other leaders to ensure consistency in service delivery and quality.
  • In partnership with the Senior Vice President of Community Development, support the alignment of housing and community development with The Arc's core mission of serving people with disabilities.
  • In a consultive manner, partner with leadership at every level, from executives to direct support professionals on strategic initiatives and growth, ensuring alignment with division(s) / department(s) goals and organizational strategy
  • Ensure that all growth strategies operate consistently and ethically within the mission and values of The Arc.
  • Facilitate cross-organization, interdisciplinary initiatives, and projects :

  • Foster productive and collaborative relationships internally and externally.
  • With leadership at every level, support strategic growth strategies and other initiatives aligned to The Arc's strategic plan.
  • Participate in and / or lead external and internal work groups and committees.
  • Support the development and implementation of research and evaluation strategy in partnership with the Senior Director of Innovation & Improvement.
  • Provide executive-level operational support across the organization :

  • Prepare and submit an annual operational budget to the Vice President of Finance for review and approval, manage effectively within this budget, and report accurately on progress made and challenges encountered; Work with leadership to ensure strategic initiatives and growth strategies are prioritized in the budget process.
  • Support the President & CEO and Senior Vice President of Administration & General Counsel with key operational initiatives.
  • Manage and coach employees and consultants both directly and indirectly assigned.
  • Other Functions

  • Support the development of organizational policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Conduct research and prepare speeches, presentations, and talking points on a wide range of topics for the President & CEO and for a wide range of constituencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • 5 years of professional experience in strategic planning, project management, and / or program development.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field required; masters' degree and / or project management credential (such as PMP) preferred.
  • Leadership experience in disability services and / or human services strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work autonomously, in ambiguous situations with little direction, running toward problems without being asked; solutions oriented.
  • Exceptional critical and strategic thinking skills; adept at looking at challenges and executing multi-pronged solutions in collaboration with others in a fast paced, growth oriented, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Experience in planning and executing high-stake meetings and convenings.
  • Demonstrate a proven ability to build relationships affecting organizational change, including in situations where there is an indirect management relationship.
  • Ability to remain flexible, calm under pressure and adaptive to change as priorities shift, serving as a model and resource for staff.
  • Experience working across cultural, geographic and programmatic lines to align work, solve problems and achieve goals.
  • Track record in proposing and successfully implementing improvements to systems, processes and practice.
  • Excellent oral and written communications; strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage positive communication in difficult situations and the ability to provide candid / constructive feedback.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and knowledge of outcome systems required.
  • COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS :

    In addition to a competitive base salary of $165,000, The Arc also provides a comprehensive package of executive benefits which includes access to robust health, vision, and dental insurance; Employee Assistance Program (EAP); Flexible Spending Account (FSA); Basic Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) coverage; short- and long-term disability insurance; 403(b) with up to 6% employer match; vehicle allowance; and unlimited PTO, as well as 12 paid annual holidays per year. Offers up to $10,000 in relocation assistance for the right candidate.

    Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday during The Arc office hours, with frequent night and some weekend hours based on the nature of the position. This position is eligible for periodic telework. This position operates in a professional office environment and out in the community, and will involve regular use of office equipment such as but not limited to, VoIP, printer, scanner, and computer.
