I. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The primary focus of the position of Senior Direct Care Worker is to provide quality care, safety and wellbeing for our youth, consistent with Treatment
  • Team recommendations Program Policies and Regulating Bodies.
  • Along with the Supervisor and Administrator on Duty, support, train, orientate, mentor and
    direct and guide staff and youth.
  • Develop and carry out a therapeutically oriented activity program based on the individual needs of the youth, as well as group needs.
  • Promote and foster positive values, i.e., integrity, honesty, dignity, self-respect and self- control.
  • Promote a sense of personal responsibility towards maintaining personal property and equipment, as well as money.
  • Motivate, guide and support each resident as he/she works toward achieving his/her goals.
  • Promote and foster as much independent behavior according to each individual's plan.
  • Maintain awareness of the emotional, physical and spiritual needs of each resident.
  • Meet and discuss clinical staff to meet youth’s needs.
  • Implement recreational and therapeutic activities to make leisure time a positive, enriching experience.
  • Maintain and manage inventory of clothing, household supplies and equipment. Report and follow up on repairs, purchases, etc.
  • Maintain and manage daily care and cleanliness of living units.
  • Supervise residents, as described in the Direct Care Worker Job Description.
  • Responsible for assisting residents in self-help skills and independent living skills.
  • Responsible for daily log entries, bed checks and data collection on behavior plans and school communication books.
  • Assist Supervisor to ensure shift assignments are completed.
  • Contributes to Treatment Team Meetings by collecting and filing reports from Direct Care Staff.
  • In absence of Supervisor will report at Treatment Team Meetings.
  • Attend Service Plan Reviews/Family Team Meetings
  • Liaison among shifts of workers; orientates each shift to the daily events
  • Orientate new children who are admitted. Oversee all arrangements, i.e., room preparation, unpacking of clothes and personal effects, introduction of new resident to living quarters, peers, direct care staff, medical staff, social work staff, recreational staff and education staff.
  • Ensure that Primary Workers conduct clothing inventory and inventory of personal belongings.
  • Report and requests items needed for each youth.
  • Provide for celebrations of special events in individual in group life: i.e., birthdays, graduations, discharges.
  • Maintain positive personal example as he/she will greatly influence the residents/staff as a role model behavior.
  • Assist in maintaining Schedule, Daily Staff Accountings, Weekly Accounts and Payroll.
  • Assist in organizing and holding resident meetings, with the Unit Supervisor.
  • In absence of Unit Supervisor, work very closely with the AOD and Residential Director in securing coverage and maintaining the Unit integrity.

II. QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED required. AA degree a plus
  • The position requires successful completion of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training (TCI), which includes a written test and demonstration of the competency to perform physical restraints, as specified by the program and regulatory body.
  • Additionally, staff must successfully complete all required TCI refreshers (6months) in order to maintain continued employment.
  • 2 years’ experience in child welfare or OMRDD is a plus
  • A valid driver’s license – preferred
  • Must provide excellent references
  • Must have patience and the ability to set limits and maintain helping role of practitioner and to intervene appropriately and in accordance with Program and regulatory bodies.

III. RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS

  • Must work as part of the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team.
  • Must work closely with Direct Care staff in maintaining day to day operations.

IV. WORKING CONDITIONS

40-hour work week.
Includes weekends and holidays.
Holidays that fall on scheduled day of work are expected to be worked.

V. SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Carry on assignments as are deemed appropriate and necessary to the functioning of the Unit, Department, and Program as stated by the Unit Supervisor, Administrator on Duty, Residential Director and Program Director.
  • Provide Child Care services within RTC campus-wide, as needed; including but not limited to ER, and medical appointments, visitation transport, and unit reassignment.
  • Participate in monthly staff and team meetings
  • Maintain compliance with ALL trainings.
