Position Summary:

The MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations) Buyer is responsible for orchestrating the procurement of MRO materials and services to support seamless production operations. This role involves coordinating the acquisition of essential items and services required for maintenance and repair activities, ensuring the availability of necessary resources to sustain operational efficiency. The MRO Buyer plays a pivotal role in streamlining the purchasing process and maintaining optimal inventory levels to support ongoing production needs.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Maintenance Department to ensure that necessary planned and unplanned parts are available.
  • Negotiates purchases of all parts or materials assigned while insuring the ultimate in quality, price, and service. Responsibility may include utilities.
  • Stock items to replenish Stores when stock level goes below safety stock.
  • Non-stock items, which may come from multiple sources for stocking -i.e., Short Text. Works to find the best price for purchase.
  • Help identify areas of improvement or concern around MRO spending patterns.
  • Actively pursue continuous improvement of cost and quality of parts and components.
  • Source through competitive quotations and utilizes vendor analysis techniques to choose suppliers.
  • Create and contribute to a materials cost reduction program.
  • Ensures all materials procured meet company quality standards.
  • Keep adequate supply of critical spare parts, tools, janitorial and cleaning supplies.
  • Develop and maintain pre-determined stock levels of spare parts and general use items (consumables).
  • Identify and recommend best pricing, service, delivery and quality for tooling, spares and equipment to be ordered.
  • Creates and routes for approval Vendor Maintenance form as required to create/add/change supplier profile information.
  • Acts as liaison with Accounts Payable and resolves all invoice/payment issues on the Indirect Purchasing side.
  • Lead the development/recommendations for min/max levels of on-hand spares. Adjust levels as necessary to support the operations considering availability, sourcing, logistics and costs.
  • Maintain accurate records, spreadsheets and reports as required, including monthly spends data and monthly inventory reporting working in collaboration w/Maintenance Inventory Clerk.
  • Bring ideas/solutions for continuous improvement to drive innovation/efficiency within the department.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree plus 1 years of MRO purchasing or Supply chain experience; OR High School Diploma or state-issued equivalency required plus 5 years of experience of MRO purchasing or Supply chain experience
  • Negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of purchasing practices and procedures to include commodities purchased for maintenance department, general understanding of maintenance functions and operations.
  • Demonstrates strong ability to foster effective communication in both a verbal and written format, teamwork, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact at all levels of the organization and is able to adapt to changing priorities and meet required deadlines.
  • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, detail oriented, project management skills (planning, organization and time management).
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office systems required.
  • ERP experience -highly desirable, or equivalent.

The pay for this role in the state of CA ranges from $70,000 to $85,000 based on years of experience, position responsibilities and geographic location.
