Description

The primary duties of a Nutritionist II involve providing clinical nutrition services to clients with broad or comprehensive nutrition needs. By using the application of nutritional theories and concepts, depth of nutritional assessment and counseling, the Nutritionist II is able to efficiently assess community nutrition needs and design programs to meet those needs.

Examples of Duties

  • Provides nutritional services to participants on the WIC program.
  • Performs WIC certification for prenatal and postpartum women, infants and children by performing nutritional assessments for clients by evaluating the client's anthropometric and biochemical measurements, socio-economic conditions and diet history to determine nutritional eligibility for WIC.
  • Develops basic care plans, including food prescriptions based on the clients' nutritional and developmental needs and preferences.
  • Provides basic nutrition counseling to nutrition services clients usually consisting of application of the food groups, proper diet habits, and the nutritional requirements of pregnancy and postpartum women, infants and children.
  • Assists the WIC Director in training non-nutritionist health department staff involved in WIC re-certifications, including nursing staff, for mother and infant re certifications, postpartum and child health clinics, as well as maternal and child services coordinators for pregnant women and children.
  • Assists the WIC Director in providing nutrition services orientation / training for new Scotland County Health Department employees.
  • Participates in nutrition outreach efforts through Health Education, Adult Health, Child Health and Maternity programs, as well as with interagency organizations, which may include local community college, NC Cooperative Extension Services, Scotland Memorial Hospital, and other local community organizations and healthcare providers.
  • Promotes nutrition and breastfeeding through participation in community health and pregnancy fairs.

Typical Qualifications

Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetics Registration; OR

Master's degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition, or Nutrition; OR

Graduation from a Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education- approved Didactic Program in Dietetics and two years nutrition experience; OR

Dietetic Technician, Registered with the Commission on Dietetics Registration with a Bachelor's degree in any subject area from an accredited four-year college or university and two years nutrition experience; OR

Bachelor's of Science degree in Dietetics, Public Health Nutrition or Community Nutrition from an accredited four-year college or university and two years nutrition experience.

Applicants should provide documentation of registration status from the Commission on Dietetic Registration, provide university or college transcripts or CADE verification statement

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license;

    Health

    We offer a high-deductible health plan with a $3000 deductible (Single). This program includes a Health Savings Account (HSA). Employee only coverage is completely funded by the County, PLUS the County contributes $1000 to the HSA annually.

    Dental

    Our dental plan provides for preventive services, such as cleanings each year, at 100%. There is a $25 deductible for other services. Basic services pays at 80% and other major services at 50%. The County contributes $14.47 per month for employee coverage.

    Voluntary Plans

    Employees may choose from a variety of plans arranged through Mark III Benefits. These include AFLAC Accident, Critical Illness and Hospital Indemnity plans; Allstate Cancer; Texas Life Whole Life; and Superior Vision plans. In addition we offer Short-term and Long-term disability.

    Life Insurance

    The County provides $10,000 Basic Life insurance for employees. An employee may choose to purchase additional voluntary term life insurance.

    Retirement

    Pension is offered through the N.C. Local Government Employees' Retirement System. Employees are required to contribute 6% of gross wages toward their account. The County also contributes at 7.58% (law enforcement 8.25%).

    401(k) and 457 are supplemental retirement plans administered by Empower. For the 401(k) plan, employees contributing a minimum of 1% are eligible for the County contribution of 2.5% toward their account. Employees contributing at least 3% or greater are eligible for a County Contribution of 3%. Law Enforcement Officers receive a 5% County contribution. The 401(k) plan offers both pre-tax and Roth after-tax contributions. The 457 plan is tax-deferred with no minimum contribution requirements.

    Longevity Pay

    The County offers longevity pay to employees with at least 5 years of continuous service.
