Family Advocate
Family Advocate: A professional who provides advocacy, information, referrals, and related services to children and families affected by domestic violence. This position requires some evening shift hours to be set by the Director.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Skilled in Microsoft Office. Available to be on call with immediate response. Available for after hour community activities. Professional appearance and demeanor. Ability to work well with others. Experience or demonstrated interest in domestic violence issues preferred. Ability to show compassion and sensitivity towards survivors of domestic violence and their circumstances. Must have no felony and/or domestic assault charges on record.
Client Services Responsibilities:
· Maintain client confidentiality as outlined in the Shelter Standards and the Shelter’s confidentiality policy
· Facilitates educational groups and support groups for parents
· Facilitates activities that promote parent/child bonding
· Provides assistance to Shelter clients across all program areas as needed
· Respond to callers accessing a 24-hour hotline and provide services including crisis intervention, including but not limited to a rotation of on-call
· Keep accurate records of all client-related activities and crisis calls
· Provide backup shelter and crisis call coverage as needed
· Arrange for emergency medical services or law enforcement services as needed
· Provide clients with personal advocacy and referrals to outside services as needed
· Provide advocacy and develop individual safety plans with clients
· Assist clients with applying for ex parte orders, victim compensation, and other services
· Facilitate support groups and/or house meetings
· Advocate and support clients through the civil and criminal justice systems
· Transport clients to the justice center, medical facilities, and other places to receive services
General and Related Responsibilities:
· Assist in the care and maintenance of the shelter
· Assist is Shelter operations as requested by the Director
· Attend and participate in trainings/meetings as required
· Assist in fundraising and community awareness activities as permitted by grant funders
· Keep an accurate timesheet and submit it to the Director in a timely manner
· Provide receipts and invoices for all expenditures to the Director in a timely manner
· Assist with yearly grant reports
· Help prepare for audits
· Maintain accurate records of applications and hours
· Record and compile statistics as required
· Represent the Shelter at community events as requested by the Director
· Perform other duties as required and/or deemed necessary by the Director
This position is a salary position. In compliance with OCJP grant requirements it is also considered a full time position. Scott County Shelter Society, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.
