Landman – Job Description
Scout Energy is a private energy investment firm that acquires, operates and improves upstream conventional oil and gas and associated midstream properties for institutional investors. Scout’s business is both the management of private energy funds and the operation of the oil and gas assets it owns. Current employee base is approximately 1200 with 200 employees in the Dallas (headquarters) office.
Scout is seeking a Landman with 2-4 years of in-house experience to join their office in Dallas, Texas. Of particular focus will be experience in negotiating, drafting surface and subsurface land agreements, and handling all in-house Land functions. This position will report to the Landman Lead for the North and Central Division and Land Manager as a part of our Land department.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Research and document leases, rights-of-way, contracts
- Negotiate and renew rights-of-way and easements and draft the agreements
- Review JOA’s and other contracts to send out AFE’s for drill wells, workovers and recompletions
- Calculate working interest, net revenue interest, overriding royalties and non-participating royalties and extrapolate to Unit to Tract ownership per well
- Provide knowledge on Working Interest and Net Review decks and possess ability to communicate information to support staff
- Provide land information to other functional groups to support ongoing development of properties
- Work new projects as assigned
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with interest and surface owners
- Provide Land support to operations engineer and asset team
- Calculate and make shut-in payments
Skills & Specifications
- Possess and demonstrate a working knowledge of oil and gas leases, contracts and title opinions
- Knowledge of title curative, support gathering, organizing and analyzing documents
- Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently

Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Landman position (in-house preferred)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of Quorum ODL is a plus
- Experience with the land aspects of an active drilling program a plus
- Experience with BLM reporting system (MLRS & LR2000)
- Experience with Federal land title and government rules and regulations
